Bahnwärterhaus

Wait. Waiting for the train. Patience. And silence. You can hardly imagine it today, but there was a time when there was a stationmaster for every section of the tracks and railroad crossing. And that stationmaster lived and worked in little houses like this one. Trains no longer run here, but the beautiful stationmaster's house still waits, patiently and silently, tranquil in its seclusion. All around is nothing but countryside, the perfect place to get away. The Dutch-German couple Lucie and Sebastian Graubner-Moormann had already fallen in love with the house when it still belonged to friends of theirs, so when it went up for sale they couldn't resist. Abiding by strict ecological standards, they renovated the house and added an all-wood annex. From the outside it almost seems to float, from the inside it’s the perfect place to watch Mother Nature’s spectacle – the wrap-around windows let you feel like you’re right in the middle of it. Watch the sunrise or sunset while sitting on the windowsill. The spacious garden with apple trees beckons. Our recommendation: just lie in the grass and watch the clouds float by. If you like, you can of course also explore the surroundings. The house is an ideal place to really switch off and indulge your dreams and thoughts ¬ the solitary location in Vogtland is a warm invitation to slow down.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The hosts take ecological matters seriously; during the renovation they carefully selected materials to work with, especially wood and clay
  • The first floor is the historical masonry, the upper floor was newly built of solid wood
  • The annex with the large windows and the dining table is the heart of the house and offers a wonderful all-round view of the outdoors
  • The beautiful 3000m² garden with a natural meadow and fruit and nut trees offers plenty of space for romping, playing, and picnicking ¬ there is also a terrace, the slate for it comes from the Theuma natural stone factory, 2 km away
  • In spring you can dive into the cheerful yellow of the rapeseed fields around the property
  • The wood stove for cozy evenings in the living room
  • Especially cozy: the main house has wall heating, and the annex has floor heating
  • The house is well equipped with lots of seating and many games, both for evenings in the house and for pleasant hours outside
  • For the furnishings, the Graubner-Moormanns cooperated with regional craftsmen, resulting in some custom-made and individual solutions, such as the beds, which can be connected across corners
  • The many windows in the rooms let not only the sunshine in, but also the green of the fields and the shade of the trees

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • There are three bedrooms with space for 8 (or even 9) persons
  • Children are welcome, there is a baby bed, a high chair, a stair guard, a larger children's room with several beds, children's toys, audio books and board games for young and old and a trampoline in the garden
  • The former railroad embankment is now a cycle path ¬a tour is worthwhile!
  • Simply set off from the house on various walks and strolls through woods and meadows
  • If you feel like having a coffee and some company: the historical city of Plauen is only 10 minutes away by car
  • The Vogtland is also suitable for winter sports, with well-marked cross-country trails, extensive ski slopes and modern ski lifts
  • The host couple Lucie and Sebastian love the area for their vacations ¬ but they also offer a lovely vacation apartment close to their home: the Schwarzwaldstrand
  • Only limited cell phone reception in the house, because there is a good electromagnetic shielding
  • Online or offline? the internet access is via LAN, the wifi can be switched on and off
