Hotel brunner
Hotel brunner in the Austrian resort of Schladming immediately catches the eye with its futuristic glass facade and clean lines. It’s hard to believe that this building is already over 500 years old! In 2011, Petra Brunner took over her parents’ traditional inn and in 2016 she transformed it into a modern boutique hotel with 24 rooms. She wanted to create a feel-good oasis for anyone seeking peace and a place to recharge their batteries—but without having to hide away from the world completely. And she has achieved this; the city hotel is located in the center of Schladming’s pedestrian area, but despite the hustle and bustle outside, it’s a place of tranquility. It’s wonderfully relaxed and welcoming and the young team puts a lot of care into looking after its guests. At the brunner, the greeting is warm—because no one needs stiff formalities and unnecessary fuss, says Petra. This also applies to the design: The hotel is modern and elegant, with a simple coziness. The interior is a feel-good blend of warm colors, anthracite and lots of wood, with a few Asian influences mixed in. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing get away on your own: With great yoga classes, Ayurveda treatments, traditional Chinese medicine workshops and a beautiful little spa with roof terrace offering special wellness and relaxation packages (our tip: The anti-stress and immune massages!). The in-house restaurant serves really delicious and healthy Ayurveda cuisine. The hostess would like her guests to enjoy what she calls “Selfness” here, which is to concentrate on themselves without a guilty conscience and to let go and recharge their batteries. Those looking for a bit of action can of course find what they are looking for too—right outside the door. The mountains of Styria offer plenty of opportunities to be active outdoors. In summer there’s hiking or mountain biking and in winter skiing or a long walk through sparkling snow. One thing’s for sure, the fresh air clears your head and in the evening, you’ll fall into bed at hotel brunner relaxed and happy. That’s a promise!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The design of the building is modern, yet cozy—a mix that grounds and inspires.
- The holistic approach: Exercise, relaxation, nutrition—all of this blends here into a unique feel-good experience.
- The special details in the rooms, such as benches at the windows which invite you to relax, and the extra-large, comfortable beds
- The hotel’s own small tea house with a great view of the mountains
- The biorhythmic lighting concept throughout the building which adds to the relaxing ambience
- The natural and sustainable regional materials that are used throughout. Each room is assigned to one of the five elements and is named after a spice which is reflected in the color scheme.
- The local, Ayurvedic and alkaline cuisine using regional organic products, which is served in the in-house restaurant, “brunners Gasthaus”. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for too!
- The special packages and workshops that are on offer, such as a traditional Chinese medicine vacation or Ayurveda therapies with nutritional counseling, massages and medicinal therapies
- The large selection of books and magazines available for guests during their stay
- The homemade cake in the afternoon—perfect as a pick-me-up after a few hours in the fresh mountain air
- The rustic “Lounge 1919” in the 500-year-old vaulted cellar, where you can end the day wonderfully
