As if you’d just discovered your own slice of paradise – this is the thought that comes to mind when you enter one of the six Pomeranian houses. Immediately, you want to settle down by the tiled stove with a good book. Or maybe just go out and fully immerse your senses in the enchanting garden that awaits. Or how about rowing across the lagoon in a rowing boat, like in all the best romantic stories? There are so many new favourite places to discover here that it’s hard to know where to begin! The spacious accommodation options are all located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the area surrounding the small village of Rieth. They all have an original charm about them, combining history with modern flair. This contrast of old and new is what characterises every Pomeranian house – in fact, it’s these contrasts that make every stay so unique. The historic buildings Red Swede, Colonist House and the Vorsee House date back to the time of colonization of Pomerania by Frederick the Great in the middle of the 18th century. Loam walls, half-timbered beams, bricks and floorboards make history come alive. The past is also everywhere you look in the three other houses: elaborately restored furniture, antique cupboards and chests of drawers meet retro details or furnishing classics from the early 1970s. Placed amongst them, selected designer pieces such as a sofa by Ligne Roset or newly designed kitchen units set ultra-modern accents. If you’d like to know how it all fits together, you should take a little time. Because you can use plenty of it here – to discover, enjoy, just allow yourself to unwind and relax, and then do it all over again ...

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

• The Red Swede with thatched roof, half-timbered façade and rare historic chimney invites us to take a journey through time: the 18th century building has aged beautifully and gracefully.
• The proximity to the water, the wonderful sun terraces and so much greenery – it’s green as far as the eye can see!
• Josephinenhof with its romantic courtyard dating from the early years of the last century is utterly charming: featuring original furniture, such as an Art Nouveau children’s bench found during clean-up work in the course of the renovation, has been kept as part of the new furnishings.
• The 250-year-old Colonist House, with its door handles worn bare, low beamed ceilings, hand-formed loam walls and a wooden façade made of local spruce wood
• With the Haus Vorsee, the focus was on preserving the most distinctive historic elements and juxtaposing them with modern features: a brick chimney now sits enthroned like a monolith in a light-filled living room with an open gallery.
• The subtle, fresh colours of Farrow & Ball in the listed forester’s house go hand in hand with impressive antique furniture.
• The house on the lake, which is just a stone’s throw away from the edge of the shore, is equipped with its own jetty complete with rowing boat and affords one of the most beautiful views of Lake Neuwarp.

GOOD TO KNOW:

• This region in the north of Germany is considered a real secret gem!
• Depending on which house you choose, enjoy exploring the nature, hiking and biking trails and the bird sanctuary island Riether Werder in the surrounding area.
• For water lovers (including the four-legged ones), there are plenty of places to go for a swim or a paddle at one of the sandy beaches – with pleasant water temperatures as early as April and May.
• The longest sandy beach on the lagoon is in the seaside resort of Ueckermünde, where you’ll find beach chairs, a promenade with kiosks, cafés and restaurants and even mini golf.
• The stunning landscape of the Riether Winkel also offers plenty of secluded paths – perfect for those who appreciate a sense of mystery when hiking or biking undiscovered trails.
• On a guided walk through the “Pommernhaus herb garden” you can learn about exotic herbs and many edible wild plants with their stunning flowers.
• The final clean, the first supply of bed linen and towels, and partly the use of the sauna are all included in the price.
