Ida historic town apartments

Old doors with metal fittings and ornate frames, Gothic window niches, wooden floors, vaulted ceilings and ornate beams. Modern minimalist design, luxurious furnishings and cozy reading corners ... Each of the ten apartments enchants with its unique character and above all with the successful combination of old and new. Because that is the fascinating thing about the Ida Apartments: 21st-century comfort behind 14th-century walls! The Ida is one of the magnificent town houses in the center of the historic town of Sterzing – the northernmost city in Italy. For thousands of years pilgrims and travelers coming south over the Brenner Pass met here. Perhaps that explains the extraordinary hospitality of this lively, convivial little town, the best proof of which is provided by the owners of the apartments themselves: Veronika and Daniel. Together with their team, they have been wining and dining guests since 2010 at Vinzenz, a restaurant and wine bar. It has twice been awarded 89 points by the international restaurant guide Falstaff. In the summer of 2021, Veronika and Daniel opened the hotel Haus am Turm and the Ida Apartments. Here, where Ida Wiedner once counted buttons in her haberdashery, we can now stretch out in the comfortable box spring beds or on the double sofa beds in one of the ten apartments and concentrate on the essentials: enjoyment and discovery – of the unique historical setting, the elegant design, the beautiful natural surroundings, or the delicious South Tyrolean cuisine.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The special charm of the ten accommodations comes from the combination of centuries-old history and modern design.
  • The beautiful and well preserved historical details like coffered ceilings, old doors, tiled stoves ....
  • ... and the new, equally great and fine details: modern, stylish lamps, black surface wiring and sockets, beautiful fittings
  • Thanks to the generous windows, all apartments are extremely bright.
  • We don't know why, but in Sterzing the clocks tick much slower: here they take their time, especially for enjoyment – a habit you can get used to very quickly!
  • From the 1960s to the 1990s, Ida Wiedner, the establishment’s namesake, ran her haberdashery here – perhaps one or two talkative people from Sterzing have a story to tell about it ...
  • The sustainably produced, cozy slippers made of cork and cotton as well as the in-house organic herbal shower gel and herbal shampoo make the time-out perfect.
  • The great central location in the lively pedestrian zone
  • Make sure you get the Green-Bonus: if you arrive by train, bus or bike, a welcome aperitif at Vinothek Vinzez is on the house.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Wine lovers and gourmets should definitely stop by Vinzenz; it's right around the corner, and serves exquisite wines from small producers and small organic farms, guests can choose from over 30 different sparkling, white and red wines.
  • Ida guests also receive a discounted rate for the Slow Breakfast at Vinzenz (yet another reason to pay a visit to the excellent restaurant ...)
  • Children up to 4 years stay free of charge
  • The ActiveCard Light is free with every stay from May to October, which means unlimited, free travel on all public transport in South Tyrol and free admission to 90 provincial museums as well as countless discounts (on cable cars, hikes, guided tours, etc.).
  • Directly at the north end of the pedestrian zone is the Rosskopf, Sterzing’s own mountain, with hiking, forest- and sunbathing, and of course skiing and tobogganing on the 9 km long slope – the cable car takes you from the pedestrian zone to the top in no time at all.
  • The minimum stay is two nights.
  • After the 8th night there is even a 10 % discount.
