La Mugletta
Iron, concrete, wood – a lot of the latter! These are the materials that were used to build La Mugletta in its original form. What this has resulted in is a jewel in the hills of Veneto, located in the Colli Euganei regional park in Teolo, a small community of 9,000 inhabitants. It soon becomes clear that nature and the environment play a significant part here: the larch wood cladding on the façade comes from native woodlands, and an immense garden, home to donkey and chickens, surrounds the house. A wonderful woody fragrance lies in the air. The property was intended to be a place where nature and architecture merge. This has indeed become a reality. Archilovers justifiably awarded the state-of-the art B&B as Best Project in 2017. Aesthetics, functionality and creativity merge together fluidly. What’s more, La Mugletta also paves the way for eco-friendly living: the entire property is self-sufficient in terms of energy. Cooling in summer, heating in winter and the hot water are all generated by a geothermal system with two probes. As a guest you’ll be treated with a quiet environment, a breath-taking panoramic view of Monte Rosso, lots of verdant areas and a family atmosphere. This is felt particularly at the heart of the building – the salotto with the kitchen, terrace and plenty of space for breakfast or gatherings. La Mugletta is a fabulous place that holds a nurturing spirit, the effects of which linger on long after your stay. Ulla and Eberhard play a major part in this – wonderful hosts who intuitively know what their guests need most. Almost like in a fairy tale, just in real life.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The purist architecture that radiates immense warmth, especially due to the wooden façade (awarded with the Wood Design Award in 2021, just sayin’).
- The spa area in the basement of the house – steam baths, colour therapy and shiatsu treatments are all here for the taking.
- The three comfortably furnished rooms with loving details are spacious and come with large windows, through which light streams in and which allow a wonderful view across the scenery.
- Ulla, the hostess, creates artistic objects with their own story in the in-house pottery workshop, always inspired by the surroundings and available for purchase in La Mugletta’s own online shop
- The large terrace of the salotto allows a magnificent view across the city and of a spectacular sunset.
- Guests are invited to pick their own fruits and vegetables.
- The wine fridge with its excellent contents
- The garden shower
- Fresh eggs from La Mugletta’s own chickens
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The (exquisite!) breakfast is included.
- Children are welcome – and board for free if younger than 3.
- La Mugletta is the ideal starting point to discover the vicinity: you can go hiking, golfing, biking, horseback riding, you can eat out or go for wine-tastings – and Venice, Padua, Vincenza, Bologna or Verona are just a stone’s throw away.
- The garden is a wonderful oasis of tranquillity: you can also just sit, read, listen to nature and marvel at the fruit trees here.
- It’s definitely worth making pottery with Ulla and unleashing your creativity .
- Culture lovers have the chance to visit impressive historical buildings, e.g. the medieval monastery Abbazia di Praglia – a jewel from the Renaissance – or the Villa Emo Capodilista dating back to the 16th century, located in a large park with a historical vineyard.
