Villa Hygge
The sound of the sea, wide open skies, endless sandy beaches, impressive rocks – and a whole lot of peace and quiet. For everyone wanting to truly relax and unwind, the island of Rügen is the place to go. The air is fresh and smells slightly salty, sometimes also with a tang of forest. The view stretches far off into the distance, the horizon is endless, the nights silent, immersed in a deep jet black blanket. On clear nights, thousands of stars shine above the island with no street lamps or advertisement lighting obscuring them, and when the moon is full, the entire Baltic Sea island is bathed in silvery, mystical light – something that city folk may not have seen for years. To finally sleep deeply and undisturbed – and wake up in a calm, clear and comfortable setting to a day without stress and noise! These all are some of the elements to be expected in the two holiday apartments at Villa Hygge in the noble Baltic Sea resort of Binz. The hundred-year-old villa was extensively refurbished and now provides its guests with island tranquillity paired with Scandinavian clarity and comfort. Sustainability is the be-all and end-all: Villa Hygge was renovated exclusively by regional craftsmen in resource-conserving and sustainable manner, with pains made to preserve old elements of the building such as natural wooden floors and half-timbering. Organic, regional and fair are keywords that pervade the furniture and fittings in the house, with Villa Hygge featuring plenty of natural furnishings that are healthy for the home – leading all in all to an exceptionally cosy atmosphere, enhanced by design classics. In the open, bright and clear eat-in kitchen of the larger “Hiddensee” apartment, Ingo Maurer's "Zettel" lamp with its dangling slips of paper is an enchanting guest book of sorts, while exposed half-timbered beams visually separate the living room from the dining area. Those who’ve always wanted to sit on an iconic Barcelona chair upholstered in Italian floral leather with a USM Haller sideboard by their side and a Bookworm rack by Kartell to gaze at, will feel right at home here at Villa Hygge. The smaller apartment “Vilm” on the ground floor impresses above all with its beautiful conservatory, where you could sit and look out of the window all day–if it wasn't so beautiful outside that you'd also be drawn outdoors. Relaxing comes naturally–even in a living room outside, as each apartment comes with a separate outdoor seating area. Blossoming flowers, shrubs and espaliered fruit conjure up the colours of summer in Villa Hygge’s outdoor oasis.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The great combination of simplicity, originality, design and clean spaces: very Nordic, very hyggelig!
- The clean, chic kitchen itself and the design of the eat-in kitchen as a whole: the Barcelona chair, the ottoman, the Zettel lamp, the USM Haller sideboard and so many other beautiful fitments that can be found in the “Hiddensee” apartment
- The exposed timber framing as a visual room divider and the beautiful bathroom with its glass ceramic tiles and two washstands in the larger apartment
- The spacious conservatory and the light-flooded living/dining area with lounge sofa in the smaller “Vilm” apartment
- The wide double beds made of Swiss pine – when resting comes naturally
- The wonderful, large wooden terrace that turns into a second living room, especially in summer
- The large garden for relaxing, reading, barbecuing ...
- The sustainability concept that runs from renovation to furnishings to hygiene products
- The location: the stately Baltic seaside resort of Binz with its long sandy beach, pier, former kurhouse and nostalgic spa architecture
- The nearby forest, which is great for long walks
- Rügen in itself! The island to relax!
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The vacation apartment “Hiddensee” offers 110 m² of space for four guests over two floors– wooden baby cot, high chair, etc. are provided upon request.
- The charming "Vilm" apartment is on the first floor. It's 55 m² and can accommodate two people (plus dog).
- Guests have access to a spacious sauna with outdoor shower and a spa area with two gym machines and yoga mats from “HejHej".
- The apartments are decorated with artworks by regional artists.
- A washing machine is available on site.
- Good for the environment and good for the guests: only ecological cleaning products are used, sustainable hygiene products are provided, the textiles are environmentally friendly and there’s a solar system, too.
- Villa Hygge is located on the Klünderberg hill of Binz. The town centre as well as many spots of nature, including the beach, are within easy reach (about seven minutes walk to the beach). The villa itself is very quiet and far from the tourist belt
- For a one-week stay, three days of rental bicycles are provided free of charge (for shorter stays, the rental time is shorter).
- Scenic spots and sights are nearby, such as Rügen's famous chalk coast with the chalk cliff Königsstuhl, wild romantic national parks, Cape Arkona and the Zicker mountains.
- The Brutalist concrete complex Prora, which has meanwhile been given a lighter coat of paint, is impressive and well worth a visit.
- The wonderful Rügen healing chalk allows you not just to feel but also to see how well you are recovering.
- Arriving by train is possible – the journey takes about three quarters of an hour from Stralsund to Binz.
