Taxhof
A long, long time ago - a good 500 years ago, to be exact - there was a beautiful farmhouse in the middle of a picturesque mountain panorama in the Salzburger Land. That alone sounds like something out of a fairy tale, and it even has a happy ending: because even today, this estate is still there, more beautiful than ever. The historic Taxhof in Bruck in the Austrian Pinzgau region is a real gem. It has been farmed by the Unterberger family since 1687. In 2010, the two sisters Elisabeth and Katharina took over the management in the 11th generation (!!!) and since then welcome every guest personally. Father Matthias manages the farm and mother Berta ensured with her fantastic and multiple Gault-Millau award-winning cooking skills that the Taxhof also became known far beyond the borders in culinary terms. Anyone who visits here inevitably becomes part of the impressive whole. Guests have seven extraordinary chalets at their disposal. It is really hard to decide ... Each of the houses has its own charm and yet captivates with a well-considered combination of modernity and tradition. Natural materials and colors from nature set the tone, blend excellently into the surroundings and give the 46-90 square meters an authentic farmhouse flair. A special experience is the stay in the tree house suite built in 2016, which is located between two mighty 300-year-old maple trees at a height of three meters. The large panoramic windows let the surrounding mountains reach directly into the living room. This magnificent view gives you the feeling of actually being one with nature and awakens the urgent desire to be able to spend a little more time here ...
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The cordiality of the host family and the great living atmosphere at the Taxhof leave a lasting impression.
- The sunrise in the house Nanni gives a real goose bumps feeling - our recommendation: just stand on the balcony with a coffee in your hand and watch how the day wakes up.
- Once spend the night where grain was once stored? It doesn't sound very comfortable at first, but in reality it's a dream: the Troadkostn dates back to 1675, its 35 square meters extend over two floors; in the past it was just a simple grain store, but today it's a real gem for vacation guests.
- An incredible spatial experience awaits the guests in the Heustodl: from the outside the house looks like three traditional barns, inside it turns out to be a single large, continuous room made of fragrant spruce wood. Add to that the view of the mountain panorama of the Hohe Tauern National Park!
- The Unterberger family attaches great importance to the sustainable management of the farm - living in harmony with nature and treating animals, plants and resources with care is a matter of course for all of them.
- The estate has its own mountain spring, which rises directly at the Taxhof; the water is collected and stored, its drinking quality is excellent, which you can taste immediately.
- A fully biological wastewater treatment plant cleans all wastewater and a small solar system provides hot water - thus the Taxhof is largely self-sufficient.
- Small guests are very popular here; for them there is a playground and a petting zoo with countless animals such as rabbits, ponies, goats, sheep and chickens.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- In the summer season a delicious farmer's breakfast is included, in winter all guests are self-catering.
- In the gourmet store are available regional, homemade and partly farm products: Farm eggs, jams, honey, cheese ... In addition, you can order a gourmet basket to provide for yourself.
- Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße is the perfect starting point for excursions: e.g. to the festival city of Salzburg (approx. 100 km), to the Hohe Tauern National Park Center (approx. 28 km), to the Ferleiten Game Park (approx. 14.5 km) or to Kaprun to the high mountain reservoirs (approx. 5 km).
- The unique location at 1.020 meters above sea level in the middle of the Hohe Tauern, allows a great view and beautiful hikes or bike tours through the Pinzgau mountains, always passing crystal clear mountain lakes, fragrant meadows or through shady forests.
- In summer there are fantastic bathing lakes to discover: right around the corner is the Zeller See with three lidos. In winter, for example, the Kitzensteinhorn glacier calls for skiing and snowboarding.
- We reveal another winter secret tip of the family Unterberger: a visit to the Rauriser valley Kolm Saigurn is worthwhile, because here you find a piece of untouched nature in the Austrian mountains far away from mass tourism.
- Who is more in the mood for wellness & spa, should take advantage of the reduced entrance fee for Taxhof guests to the Tauern SPA in Kaprun (by the way, most of the houses in the Taxhof are also equipped with a sauna ...).
- Children up to 3 birthday stay overnight and have breakfast free of charge.
- Minimum stay from 4 nights, in high season from 7 nights.
