destinature Südeifel
On the Ferschweiler Plateau in the Eifel, beautifully framed by bizarre rock formations in the middle of Germany's second oldest nature park, lies a small, extraordinary village. Here, true nature lovers come together with a common mission: to relax and to raise ecological awareness in the tourism industry. How does this work? With consistently sustainable accommodation built of environmentally friendly construction materials, an exquisite organic bistro, green electricity, solar panels and a lot of going back to basics. The owners and visionaries Holger and Eva Danneberg had already done some pioneering work with their first destinature village in Hitzacker, built in 2019. The concept was so well received that it was awarded the German Tourism Prize in 2021. In August 2022, they opened their second camp in the Eifel, near the Luxembourg border. Six log cabins and 20 summer huts are now available. Small, fine accommodation made entirely of natural wood, with no frills and yet equipped with everything you need to switch off and recharge your batteries, including a wellness area in the great outdoors! On the way to the outdoor sauna, you can feel the grass under your feet, take a shower under the open sky or forget about time in the heated tub while listening to the birds chirping. A stay in the destinature village feels like a total immersion in nature. And the best thing about it: you are part of this important mission, proving that a respectful approach to the environment is possible in all areas - even on holiday.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Holger and Eva Danneberg are also the founders of WERKHAUS, which produces eco-friendly home and office accessories; the destinature villages are based on their WERKHAUS concept: all the huts are built using a plug-in system - with no glue or screws, so everything can be easily dismantled or rebuilt
- The cabins are designed in such a way that each unit offers privacy, but you can also easily interact with other guests if necessary - especially practical when children are involved ...
- The phrase "living in harmony with nature" is taken to a whole new level in the destinature village: it's a bit like camping, except that you enjoy far more comfort, similar to glamping, but much, much more sustainable ...
- The village is not only for grown-up nature lovers, but also for the small ones: a playground for romping and huge meadows for running.
- For bike fans there's the bed & bike offer: besides a wonderful place to stay and delicious food, there are also bike repair facilities available.
- The sanitary facilities are ultra-modern and equipped with toilets, showers and a family bathroom with changing table; washing machine and dryer are free of charge.
- The bistro is the heart of the nature camp: from breakfast to healthy snacks to dinner, everything served here is organic; gluten-free and vegan dishes are also available.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The tranquil, scenic village of Ernzen is within walking distance, shopping can be done in Irrel, about 7 km away.
- Three national borders are nearby: Luxembourg, France and Belgium - excursions are worthwhile.
- You can also visit some historical landmarks in Mainz (cathedral), Trier (Porta Nigra) or Saarbrücken (castle).
- The Teufelsschlucht dinosaur park is about two kilometers from the destinature village: journey through the history of the earth and marvel at life-size models of prehistoric lizards.
- The Teufelsschlucht itself is a real attraction and can even be reached on foot.
- The South Eifel Nature Park is a wonderful place to go hiking or cycling.
- Bathrobe and sauna towel are available at the camp for an extra charge, towels and duvets are included.
- Minimum stay in the log cabin is two nights.
