Idaho

When you hear the word “Idaho” images of plentiful nature with endless expanses and wild waters immediately spring to mind. But such untamed nature isn’t only to be seen in the American state—all of this can also be found in the surroundings of the vacation home IDAHO, located on the only high bank of the Eider, the largest river in Schleswig-Holstein. The special location helped in the search for a suitable name—thus “Eider-Hoch” became IDAHO. The entire concept of the house, which from the front actually looks a bit like an American bungalow, is as creative and unique as the name. The building, which is completely covered with earth-colored French clay shingles, nestles into the hillside on two levels and is visually divided into a first floor and garden level. From the street side, the property appears to be a single-story, cleverly constructed house with horizontal design windows. But on its water-facing half, a large portion has given way to a balcony, which also functions as the roof of the garden floor. This lower apartment is constructed as a rectangular cube, in front of which extends a terrace of light gray Jura stone pavers. Thanks to large sliding window fronts, both apartments offer a seemingly endless view of the vast landscape, the peaceful Eider, and wide open skies. The first floor apartment is completely paneled with warm oak wood; the floor is covered with herringbone parquet. Window frames and a design kitchen are also made of the same warm oak wood. Featuring light gray grained natural stone, a little white, a little black, a gray stone fireplace extending into the gable, and to top it all gold fixtures in the bathroom, this dwelling creates a luxurious yet natural and extremely cozy atmosphere. The smaller garden level, also with herringbone oak flooring, is painted in dark green-gray. The interior combines light furniture and Jura natural stone details. You can rent both apartments separately—or you can decide to rent the whole of this wonderful house!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The extraordinary facade made of clay shingles
  • Inside, the vacation home exudes a luxurious “cabin feeling” thanks to the wood paneling.
  • The high-quality furnishings with a design mix from different 20th century decades
  • The elongated, slim fireplace, extending to the roof
  • The large windows on both floors, offering endless views over the water into the distance.
  • The great design of the kitchens and their equipment with high-end appliances
  • The ambience is both luxurious and comfortable—for a maximum feeling of well-being!
  • The golden fixtures in the bathroom
  • The option to rent the whole house or just one of the two apartments,
