La Scuola Guesthouse

Opening your own BnB .... For a long time, art director Valeria and IT specialist Marco had the idea buzzing around in their heads. Until one day, in a small village in Veneto, 800 meters above sea level, they came across a former school building for sale. When they saw the romantic building with the faded scuola comunale sign, the historic bell tower right in front and the view over the lowlands stretching as far as Venice, they both knew immediately that their idea had found a home. Extensive renovation with the support of local construction companies created a unique guest house, which Valeria and Marco have been running with heart and soul since 2013. As a tribute to the building’s original purpose, school remained in session: the rooms are called Aritmetica, Geografia, Scienze, Storia e Lettere, Maestra, and are furnished not only with vintage furniture and beautiful textiles, but also with blackboards, reading desks, typewriters, school chairs and old children's books. But no worries, it’s perpetual recess here. But when you take a seat on the wooden chairs in the beautiful breakfast area, aka classroom, and devote yourself to the delicious, home-made breakfast, you will be delighted at just how wonderful school can be. 

What we like:

• The charming retro look of the rooms with lots of treasures from antique shops and flea markets. Each room is uniquely furnished with wooden wardrobes, iron beds, vintage lamps, and beautiful textiles.
• The terrace with colorful chairs and tables, the two lime trees and the sweeping view of the countryside and the little bell tower.
• The charming original details such as exterior walls, roof, doors and windows, floors and screens that have been preserved
• The free-standing bathtub in the Teacher's Room
• The romantic building from the 1920s, overgrown with roses and hydrangeas
• Breakfast is served later than usual and offers delicious, local ingredients bought fresh at the market or specialties made by Valeria herself (including her homemade cake)
• The collection of historical school bags on the coat stand
• In Lusiana you can experience authentic village life, far away from mass tourism
• Sustainability —the hosts cooperate with organic manufacturers and farms in the area
• The different types of sights: beautiful landscapes, alpine huts, pretty villages, and popular tourist destinations such as Venice, Verona, Padua and Vicenza ¬ all within easy reach

GOOD TO KNOW:

• Breakfast is included, there are also vegan options on request.
• Families are welcome, baby cribs are available, extra beds are sometimes possible.
• The B&B is located between the beautiful mountain plateau of Asiago and the medieval town of Bassano di Grappa.
• Hiking, biking, paragliding, cross-country skiing, visiting towns, exhibitions, museums and Palladian villas—there are many outdoor and cultural activities to enjoy. 
• Hiking and mountain bike tours can be organized with local partners
• Picnic baskets with tasty treats can be prepared on request.
• The friendly hosts have many tips for sights and restaurants at the ready.
• There are several restaurants in the area, some of the hosts' favorites are within 10 minutes by car.
• There are (deliberately) no televisions, but there is WiFi.
• Venice is approx. 100 km away but easily reachable by train, as is Verona, and Vicenza is approx. 40 km away.
