VV44
Unbridled nature, crashing waves and endless beaches make the Danish region of West Jutland a favorite destination for nature lovers. Glittering metropolises are nowhere to be found here; instead, travelers can expect vast landscapes and pretty towns. Vacation home VV44 is located inland, about half an hour’s drive from the coast. The Bauhaus-inspired structure of two interlocking cubes appears quite straightforward at first but closer inspection reveals details in the choice of materials, with concrete and wood merging harmoniously on the façade. Teak slats frame the large windows and provide a warm contrast to the covered concrete terrace. Inside, it’s clear that owners Heike and Cristian have an eye for art and vintage pieces. They bought VV44 with its wonderful furnishings from a photographer in 2023, keeping much of it and adding other gems like Scandinavian classics from the 50s and 60s. These are combined with modern fixtures such as the exposed concrete kitchen island, which conceals a vintage stereo console. The kitchen is part of the open-plan living space, cleverly divided by a ceiling-high shelving unit. Every light, cushion and sofa cover has been carefully selected by the owners and will delight guests interested in design. And then there are the bathrooms: Vintage sideboards have been converted into wash stands, complemented by brushed gold washbasins. The garden also invites exploration. The gravel in front of the house is punctuated with corten steel-edged boxes which are planted with grasses, further on are old apple and pear trees, a greenhouse and a small garden pavilion. There are no other houses nearby. This seclusion, combined with the location’s natural and architectural beauty, makes unwinding an easy task in vacation home VV44.
