Haus Moosberg
What a panorama! Whether you’re having your morning coffee at the dining table or letting your thoughts wander on the balcony—the view is ever-present and simply awesome. The view through the large window fronts of Haus Moosberg stretches far across Lake Traunsee and the surrounding mountains. Cow bells from the neighboring lush green pastures provide the perfect soundtrack. The striking and modern new building of Haus Moosberg nestles against the mountain between half-timbered and gabled roofs. It was commissioned by Anna and Joerg, a couple living in Vienna. After years in the big city, they longed for nature and the tranquility of their home town of Gmunden in the Salzkammergut. With Haus Moosberg, they’ve created an extraordinary retreat for themselves and their children—and for happy vacationers. With its modern architecture, playfully interacting with the local surroundings in its very own way, the new building is striking: The roof descends gently towards the valley, the wooden façade harmonizing with the forest behind it. Wood is also the predominant material inside, bringing warmth to the rooms with their exposed concrete walls in the form of kitchen fronts, staircases and room dividers. The interplay of tradition and modernity runs throughout the entire building. Modern fixtures and fittings meet select furnishings and contemporary designer pieces. On the ground floor, guests first enter a small entrance hall next to the kitchen, which leads into the living room with glass on both sides. The wrap-around balcony, the large terrace and the garden allow you to marvel at the view outside. What’s certain is that everyone staying in Haus Moosberg will find a place to relax in their own way, whether indoors or outdoors. And when the day begins or ends with a view like the one at Haus Moosberg, there’s hardly anything else you could wish for.

- Traditional elements such as the fireplace have been interpreted in a modern way.
- The large open-plan living room, which appears even wider thanks to its two large window fronts; the sliding doors open out onto the terrace and the garden.
