Seegut Zeppelin
Wake up and strr-r-e-e-e-tch, slip into your fluffy bathrobe or cozy sweater (depending on the temperature and sunshine!), then walk across the meadow to the lakeshore and breathe in the clear morning air ¬ there's no better way to start the day, is there? Whether we jump straight into the refreshing water or simply marvel at the beautiful nature on cooler days, one thing is certain: breakfast tastes even better after such an outdoor moment. Especially when we can put it together à la carte at the newly opened hotel in Friedrichshafen-Fischbach on Lake Constance. It is located in a large, unspoiledpark with its own access to the lake. The historic Villa Gminder, which was built in 1909 and is now surrounded by four modern buildings, stands at the center of the lakeside estate. Following the principles of Green Eco Design, natural construction materials were used for all 62 guest rooms : lime plaster for the walls and pebbled floor coverings, silver fir paneling, oak floorboards and brass. The furniture comes from manufacturers who focus on robustness, sustainability, and quality. The cuisine at the Pinus restaurant has a vegetarian focus, and the dishes are not served one after the other, but all at once in small portions to share: May turnips with radish and pickled trout, potato ravioli with mushrooms or lentils from the Swabian Alb with Black Forest miso ¬ whatever’s in season. In addition to wines and spirits from the Lake Constance region, the menu also includes many beverages with little or no alcohol, such as fermented essences and drinks made with herbal extracts. Our highlight: quince juice, which is made with hops and is simply delicious. So if you thought in the morning that your day couldn't get any better, you're sure to be pleasantly surprised!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- How well the modern new buildings, with their dark glazed spruce wood façades and green pavilion roofs, blend in with their natural surroundings.
- How the neo-Gothic vaulting in Villa Gminder’s vestibule spans the reception hall, forming the passageway to the restaurant – impressive!
- Sandra and Hendrik Fennel ¬ who also run the neighboring Hotel Maier ¬ put their heart and soul into running the Seegut Zeppelin, focusing above all on sustainability, quality, and enjoyment.
- The view from the large terrace over the lake and (on a clear day) as far as the Säntis, the highest mountain in northeaster Switzerland’s Alpstein massif
- One of the hotel's absolute best spots: the bunks in the wellness area, where you can doze undisturbed or leaf through magazines
- The impressive giant trees in the park, which radiate peace and quiet
- Lots of fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown in the greenhouse and raised beds around the hotel buildings. The meadow orchard provides apples, pears, plums and cherries, much of which ends up in creative creations at the dinner table.
- Michelin-starred chef Philipp Heid creates flavorful dishes, either with complementary combinations of flavors, or ones that go so well together precisely because they contrast. There's a bit of adventure involved ¬ and a lot of craftsmanship!
- That as much of the produce as possible ends up in the pots in the kitchen –fruit and vegetable peelings in particular contain great flavors!
- The respectful treatment of the environment. As the park is a protected landscape, care is taken to ensure that the riverside area is not too busy and that the peace and quiet of the wintering wild birds is not disturbed.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The names of the houses where the 62 guest rooms are located were inspired by members of the famous Zeppelin family: House Ferdinand, House Helene, House Isabella and House August. The hotel is owned by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH.
- All rooms have a balcony or terrace with a view of the lake, the park, or the orchard and herb garden.
- All rooms are equipped with floor heating in the bathroom and a sustainable cooling system.
- Susanne Kaufmann care products with natural ingredients from the Alps are available for guests.
- Finally time for me! The sauna area with its own access to the park is the perfect place to relax. If you want to work out, you can do so on the modern equipment in the fitness room.
- Where does the delicious bread come from? Well, from "Brot und Brüder" bakery. And the veal? From the organic farmer "Speicher 1616" in Schnetzenhausen. Transparency is a top priority here.
- Practical: all rooms are accessible by elevator
- Good news for all those arriving by car: the hotel has an underground parking garage.
- The Lake Constance region is a real vacation paradise: hiking, swimming, cycling, culture, culinary delights ¬ there is something for everyone.
- The hotel is also a place to think, plan and create. There is space for up to 100 people in the 8 seminar and event rooms.
- Yes! There are three salons with a view of the lake on the villa's top floor, the middle one of which can also be used for weddings.
