Skarpa Resort
First things first: It’s unlikely that you’ll only visit Ustronie Morskie once—not least because the cozy Polish Baltic seaside resort with its 2,000 inhabitants is absolutely charming at any time of year. Cycling through coastal forests in spring, stretching out all fours on the soft powdered sugar sand in summer, searching for amber after stormy nights in the fall and counting the icicles hanging from the pier in winter. Incidentally, it’s already become one of our favorite places that we love to return to time and again is the SKARPA resort. Since it opened its doors, vacation guests have had eight cottages to choose from and enjoy all year round. Combining comfort and aesthetics was important to the hosts when designing the accommodation. The result is bright rooms with natural materials, custom-made fixtures to make the most of the space and vibrant accents such as chairs or shelves in bright colors that create an exciting contrast to the predominantly muted natural tones. Large window fronts open up a view of the green landscape and never-ending skies. Depending on the weather (and your mood!), you can head from the private terrace to the pool in the garden for a dip or relax in the outdoor hot tub—to warm up, gaze at the stars or admire the snow on the meadows and trees. No matter whether you take a plunge in the morning or evening, in the summer heat or frosty temperatures, the experience will always be amazing: So close to nature—and suddenly all that stress back home is so wonderfully far away.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The successful contrast of the bungalows’ dark wood, metal cladding and black window frames with the untouched nature around them
- How wonderfully the grounds have been planted with lush grasses that conjure up a beautiful beach vibe
- The oversized ceiling lights in the dining areas, which not only provide warm light, but also give the cottages an individual touch
- The color mood in the communal sauna can be personalized using LED lighting, allowing you to use colors to boost your own well-being.
- When the day starts as relaxed as it does here: Whether in bed, in front of the floor-to-ceiling window or on the terrace—breakfast is served with a view of the trees and the wide meadow.
- It’s only 870 meters to the sea. It’s just a 10-minute walk to the wide, fine sandy beach, which is fun at any time of year.
- Ustronie Morskie has already been awarded the Blue Flag several times, an eco-label from the field of sustainable tourism that stands for exceptionally clean seawater.
- You can leave your car where it is as you’ll find everything you need close by. There’s a grocery store, cafés, restaurants, a fish and chip shop and smokehouse within walking distance.
- There are plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the way of life here: There’s a fishing port next to the beach where you can watch the boats being launched by cable in the morning. At the Skansen Chleba bread baking museum, you can make your own sourdough bread in the traditional way.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The complex has eight cottages that can each accommodate up to four or six people. Each one has a terrace with a view of the garden and nature.
- Heatwave or sub-zero temperatures? The accommodation can be heated or air-conditioned.
- Although there’s no restaurant on the premises, there’s everything you need for self-catering: A fully equipped kitchenette with fridge, dishwasher, induction hob and microwave.
- For those who want to throw fresh sea fish on the grill on warm summer evenings, the cottages have barbecue facilities.
- Families with children also feel at home at SKARPA resort. In addition to outdoor play equipment, there are board games, puzzles, books and DVDs for the little ones. Highchairs and bath tubs for babies are also available—and (often a highlight for parents traveling with small children) a washing machine.
- Those who like to get out and about on two wheels will find cycling and hiking trails in the surrounding area, such as the fantastic coastal cycle path that runs through Ustroń. Others lead to the oldest oak trees in Poland or the remains of ruined military bases.
- If it’s raining or stormy, head to the salt cave in Kolberg 10 kilometers away! Not only does it look fabulous, the healing salt also has a positive effect on the body and mind.
- To get moving, there’s hardly anything more relaxing than endless walks on the beach. Those looking for more action can venture into the waves with a kite or surfboard or go canoeing or kayaking. Also good to know: You can tee off at the nine-hole golf course in Rusowo.
- From Berlin, it’s just under 290 kilometers to the SKARPA resort; from Hamburg it’s around 550.
