Aavego
If you long for peace, the beach, dunes, sea, clouds and the light of the north, this is the perfect place for you. This special vacation home is located in the middle of the rugged landscape of North Jutland, where it blends in perfectly with its surroundings. Nature permeates the entire space, with the spacious and open design blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. Floor-to-ceiling windows open up the view to swaying grasses, bushes and dunes. In the light-flooded living space, surfaces made of pale wood create a lively contrast to the abundance of clean white. Simple shapes and sharp edges are coupled with natural materials and selected Scandinavian design classics. This is a place that celebrates the beauty of simplicity. Designed by Danish architect Søren Sarup, the house consists of a main building and an annex. Connected by a 180-square-meter wooden deck, this creates a fantastic outdoor space—perfect for doing yoga, having a barbecue together, feeling the sun shine on your face or letting the wind blow through your hair. What a wonderful, happy place!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The interplay between the main house with its glass façade and overhanging roof and the simple shape of the annex with its adjoining bedrooms
- The warm wood in the living area paired with the understated white surfaces and the occasional splash of red
- The minimalist interior is the perfect complement to the clear linear architecture.
- Is there anything cozier than curling up on the big couch and gazing out into nature when it’s stormy and raining outside? Exactly!
- The large fireplace—a popular spot after a day in the waves or a winter walk on the beach
- The quiet and relaxed atmosphere, where you can take in nature and really unwind
- The glass fronts of the bedrooms can be opened up to the terrace allowing you to breathe in the fresh morning air as soon as you get up.
- The large folding door that extends the kitchen to the south-facing terrace. There are lots of lovely shady and sunny spots here for reading, talking and lazing around.
- Nature is part and parcel of the experience here: The wooden terrace becomes an extra open-air room where you can watch migratory birds and magnificent sunsets.
- The landscape in North Jutland: The dunes, the wide natural beaches, the light and the impressive cloud formations
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The house is best suited for groups of friends or families, but everyone will automatically feel at home here.
- There are four bedrooms in the annex, with a further bedroom in the main house.
- The kitchen is perfectly equipped with a dishwasher, hob, oven, fridge and freezer—as well as everything you need for a really good cup of coffee!
- Aavego is just 800 meters from the beach.
- An electric car charging point is available.
- The Light House - also designed by Søren Sarup - is right next door. Another wonderful house by the architect in Agger is Vesterlandet
- The stretch of coast between Agger and Hanstholm, also known as “Cold Hawaii”, is a surfer’s paradise with plenty of good spots for kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing.
- What else is on offer? Mountain biking, hiking in Thy National Park, fishing, riding Icelandic horses, hunting for amber or stand-up paddling or kayaking on the nearby lakes.
- The views from the two lighthouses Hanstholm and Lodbjerg are well worth seeing.
- The fishing village of Agger is very peaceful and quiet, but there’s a bakery and the opportunity to buy fresh fish at the harbor in the mornings. The nearest supermarket is in Hurup.
