A huesle

Soft clouds against a deep blue sky, crowned by the word “Himmel” (sky) in large letters. This is the picture that hangs (in duplicate) in the bedroom of the A huesle vacation home, perfectly capturing the essence of this charming retreat in Oberreute in the Allgäu region. Nestled among tall birch trees and green meadows, offering plenty of fresh air, the wood-clad house with its pointed roof blends naturally into its surroundings. The floor-to-ceiling windows create an effortless flow between indoors and outdoors, making you feel close to nature. This connection is emphasized by the abundance of light wood used in the design of the rooms. The two-story house features a clear, understated design with a focus on sustainability. The 80-square-meter house can comfortably accommodate up to four people, but it’s even more special for a getaway for two. Just imagine what it would be like to wake up in a Swiss pine bed, feeling refreshed, in a wonderfully peaceful setting, drinking your morning coffee on the large couch in front of the panoramic window—and looking forward to a day in the Allgäu walking through the Bregenz Forest, climbing in the mountains, skiing in the snow or visiting Bregenz to take in one of the many different music, culture or art events. A less adventurous—but all the more relaxing—vacation program could simply be enjoying the house with its beautiful garden, doing yoga, reading, cooking together, and just savoring the moment. What a heavenly experience!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The thoughtful architecture in harmony with its surroundings and the coherent design: Timeless, natural, and straightforward
  • The house was built in a sustainable, ecological, and resource-saving manner—using regional building materials and craftsmen from the area.
  • The matte black designer kitchen, which not only looks high-quality and elegant (especially in contrast to the light wood), but is also perfectly equipped
  • The modern bathroom with walk-in shower, black fittings, and large wall and floor tiles in a terrazzo look
  • The wood-paneled sloping ceilings, which make the vacation home particularly cozy
  • The view through the large windows into the garden—curled up on the sofa, you feel like you’re in the middle of nature.
  • The three outdoor areas where you can really relax: The covered terrace in front of the bedroom with garden access and a table and chairs for morning coffee, the spacious balcony with lounge furniture from Ygg&Lyng, and the secluded terrace with Fermob furniture and a dining table for four
  • The location on the border between West and Upper Allgäu, very close to the Bregenz Forest, where there are plenty of natural sites to delight outdoor enthusiasts all year round
  • The area has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine: You’ll find award-winning restaurants, village inns, and other lovely places to stop for a bite to eat.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Spread over two floors, A huesle offers a large open kitchen with living area, a bedroom, a bathroom with shower, and a separate guest WC. There’s also a room with two single beds under the roof, which can only be accessed by a ladder.
  • The vacation home is perfect for two people. If anyone else would like to join in and sleep under the roof, simply speak to the hosts in advance.
  • There’s a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, Moccamaster coffee maker, kettle, and toaster.
  • This place is perfect for active vacationers, nature lovers, culture enthusiasts, couples, friends, and anyone who loves architecture and design.
  • Those who are into exercise will definitely get their money’s worth with swimming, walking, cycling, hiking, climbing, golfing, and winter sport options available.
  • Sustainability is a top priority here: From green electricity, heat pumps, and photovoltaics to energy-saving triple glazing—everything has been thought of.
  • If you have work to do or you feel inspired by the surroundings to put pen to paper, you’ll find a desk in the spacious bedroom (Wi-Fi is also available, of course!).
  • The Bregenz Forest is only about three kilometers away, Bregenz is about 30 kilometers away, and there’s a wide and varied range of art, theater, and concerts on offer.
