Niedermairhof
The Niedermairhof in South Tyrol is a declaration of love—for historical and modern architecture, for design and art, for the long history of the house, for the surroundings, for the family and especially for its vacation guests. For 15 years, the former inn was in a state of slumber. But then the heirs Kathrin and her husband Helmuth set about reawakening the historic building, which has been in the family for over 200 years, with the help of a large-scale conversion project. Bursting with creative ideas, courage, passion and a lot of heart and soul, the young couple tinkered, sketched and designed away to create a real home from home for their guests. The result is a small and very stylish B&B with eight individual rooms and suites, where Art Nouveau and modernity unite harmoniously, providing for many a surprise detail. A treasure chest of memorable vacation moments full of style and elegance, beauty and warmth and joy. Perfect for mini-breaks or long vacations, for snow adventures or mountain meadow romance, it’s best to come back time and again.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- All eight rooms and suites are individually, luxuriously yet simply furnished—old pieces of furniture from the original inn have been combined with modern designer furniture and elements.
- The details that turn the rooms into real little treasure chests: An aquarium plays room divider, old wall paintings tell of another time; tiles, wallpapers and fabrics take us on a themed journey to the fields, meadows and alpine pastures of the wonderful surroundings.
- Even the old tiled stoves have been dismantled, fitted with modern heating coils and reassembled.
- The old architecture—many historical elements have been preserved and restored, for example, the old roof truss, wooden beams, the porch from 1904, and floors and windows.
- The new architecture: The old building is now joined by a modern black annex that houses the bathrooms—what a triumph!
- The breakfast! Jams, cakes, bread and juices are all regional products. Every morning there is an additional special treat.
- The very successful architecture of the spa area in the old wooden stable: After a Finnish or bio sauna, you can relax in the spacious rest area in front of the crackling fire or enjoy the view through panoramic windows—extraordinary!
- The warm-hearted and friendly hosts who run the Niedermairhof with a lot of heart and soul
- The location: The B&B is situated on a hillside in the district of Dietenheim with many pretty old farms and Ansitzen. By bike it is only three minutes to the beautiful old town of Bruneck with cafes, restaurants, shopping alleys and its castle.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The rooms are very spacious - from 38 to 51 square meters
- The foundation walls of the courtyard date back to the 14th century. The last major reconstruction was in 1904—most of the structural elements date back to this time.
- Breakfast is included.
- The Niedermairhof is very child-friendly—the hosts have two children themselves; there’s a big garden and a playground.
- There are free extra beds for children up to three years old.
- There’s a common room in the loft lounge with books and magazines to browse through.
- You can rent the whole house.
- If you love nature and/or sports, you’re in the right place: Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoe tours in one of the numerous skiing areas. In summer, there’s hiking, nature to experience, climbing, swimming, biking in the beautiful Puster Valley and in the Braies Dolomites.
- Culture and delicacies can be found in the small town of Bruneck—you can visit the castle with the Messner Mountain Museum, the South Tyrolean Museum of Folklore, the historic old town and plenty of good restaurants.
