Manoir de Moncé
There’s something for everyone here: Walking or cycling, canoeing on the Dronne, searching for treasures at flea markets, conquering medieval castles or caves, marveling at weekly markets, discovering wine cellars, splashing around in the pool, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen or simply relaxing with a good book in the garden. The stately Manoir de Moncé is surrounded by wonderful nature in a solitary location in the Dordogne. The hosts Andrea, Caroline, Nikolaus and Wolfgang had fallen in love with the area around the Périgord during their vacations. So when the opportunity arose to convert a historic property—a real château—into a vacation home, they couldn’t resist. Luckily! Because the house, which was renovated and converted with a lot of love, good ideas, plenty of commitment and even more heart and soul, now offers not only themselves, but also guests, a dream vacation spot. Here you’ll find everything you need for “savoir-vivre”: Great equipped kitchens and large dining tables, many beautiful places inside and outside to linger or to spend time together, space for many, including dogs and children—plus personal and individual furnishings that exude joie de vivre and lightness. The art of the good life—definitely to be enjoyed in these historic walls!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The red windows! The turret! The stone walls! The plank floorboards! The garden!
- die idyllische Alleinlage
- The historical building was renovated with a lot of knowledge and care and brought up to a modern standard.
- The furnishings are colorful and historic-antique: Cheerful, modern details are combined with antique pieces with great stylistic confidence.
- The spacious rooms are all individually furnished and you have a wonderful view of nature.
- The salt water pool in the garden
- The open kitchen, where—whistling a happy tune—you can use the treasures from the region in the midst of high-quality kitchen equipment (for example, a gas stove by Rosieres, a Smeg refrigerator and a Norwegian Jotul oven in the Bel Étage)
- Nature right on the doorstep: Hilly fields and forests invite you to take long walks.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- In the west wing, there are currently two residential units: The Bel Étage (up to six people) which you can also rent with the studio (for two people) and the apartment (for two people) with its own terrace.
- A spacious living area in the south wing offers space for four to five or six to seven people, as you can book the wing with two or three bedrooms as you require.
- To discover the region a car is recommended—for trips to the neighboring pretty villages, to the sea or to Bordeaux (about 130 kilometers).
- For foodies: The region offers excellent wine and great markets.
- In winter, it’s also a cozy retreat with central or floor heating and fireplace.
- There’s plenty of room for everyone, for example, at the table in the large kitchen-living room where ten people can feast.
- Children are welcome: a baby bed and high chair are available on request.
- Rental in the high season is by the week: short stays from three days in the low season are available on request.
