Casa Bonay

Good food, love, sunshine, wine, books, cocktails, good coffee, music, yoga, and dancing - these were all bullet points on the to-do list for entrepreneur Ines Miró Sans and a group of friends when they started their joint hotel project, Casa Bonay. They checked every one of them off! They also added a good dose of creativity, good design and a stately building from 1869 in the Eixample district. Casa Bonay aims to be a temporary home for guests from all over the world and also a meeting place for barcelonins , artists and creative people. Various local designers and manufacturers were involved in the design, creating a perfect setting for an exquisite holiday. The house was lovingly restored, preserving the old mosaic floors, the elegant staircase, the high ceilings, and the majestic entrance hall. Casa Bonay, named after its last owner, has an authentic, time-honoured look and at the same time welcomes new ideas. Vintage glamour and modern design define the atmosphere. The rooms are understated but beautifully furnished. Many rooms are entered from corridors filled with a sea of plants. It feels more like a real home and less like a hotel. If it were anywhere but in Barcelona, a city brimming with exciting attractions, there would be few reasons to leave this beautiful hotel – with a coffee shop, tapas, and rooftop barbecue restaurant as well as the hotel's own cocktail bar, you can keep yourself well fed here from morning to night.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The grandeur of the hotel with its large reception hall
  • the stylish mix of traditional elements and modern design
  • The abundance of plants in the corridors and at the entrance
  • The built-in balconies with cosy sofas
  • Five exclusive rooms each have a sun terrace with sun loungers and their own outdoor showers.
  • The large windows in all rooms
  • The super-friendly staff and the relaxed atmosphere
  • The collaboration with many local designers and manufacturers for the interior design
  • The central location right in the heart of Barcelona (the Sagrada Familia is about 15 minutes' walk away)

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • There are seven different price categories ¬ something for every budget.
  • There is also a family suite with an extra living area and small conservatory.
  • The smaller rooms have no balcony, the larger ones have an open or glassed-in balcony.
  • The rooms have no TVs, but there is fast WiFi and streaming via MUBI.
  • Malin & Goetz care products, a mini-bar with selected regional products and a few nice magazines to browse through are in the rooms as amenities ¬ there are even yoga mats in the larger rooms.
  • The restaurants and mini-bar use primarily regional produce.
  • Most rooms are equipped with air conditioning or ceiling fans.
  • Just a short walk to the beach, the Gothic Quarter and El Born, shops, markets, parks ¬ everything is close by
  • The place is lively: the many bars are frequented by locals as well as guests; there are also regular events such as concerts, etc.
  • There is also a souvenir and book shop that the hotel runs together with the interiors magazine Apartamento.
  • The hotel is committed to a regular update of its sustainability standards and to making them transparent.
