Ansitz Hohenegg
We are head over heels in love—with the ancient, enchanted shingle house in the Allgäu. With the remise with the three rooms “Wipfelglück”, “Heuboden” and “Waldblick”. With the picture-book idyllic location on a bright clearing with heavenly peace, fragrant fir trees, and forest flower meadows in summer and glistening snow in winter. And the interior of the 300-year-old house and coach house also has plenty of eye-catching features to offer. Hosts Anna-Dina and Sebastian Priller have created a beautiful retreat with a flair for good design, lovingly assembled details (like Grandma’s first wooden skis) and high-quality materials from the region. Alpine charm joins modern architecture in a loft style—zero kitsch and yet authentic. There’s no lack of favorite places of all kinds here either—fireplaces including crackling fire, a glazed loggia with fantastic views, cozy beds and cozy sitting areas under creaking wooden beams. After a few days in this pure idyll, it would certainly be no surprise if no one wants to go down into the valley. It’s much nicer to hike to an alpine pasture for a snack, to collect herbs and berries or to let stones bounce over the water at the Eistobel. Rest, leisure, deceleration is the motto. Nothing grounds you better than time out in nature. This is the perfect place for it.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The fairy tale idyll - house and surroundings are simply beautiful.
- There’s something suitable for all family sizes or groups of travel companions—not even large families or groups of friends will be able to get on each other’s nerves that quickly in the 300 square meters of the shingle house.
- Great for kids—in summer and winter, there are countless outdoor activities for all ages.
- The very special and rustic shingle house (especially for northerners)
- The hosts have put a lot of emphasis on the use of natural and regional materials such as wood, stone, loden and leather.
- The successful blend of modern and spacious and charming alpine style.
- The cozy “Kucha” (kitchen) in the Schindelhaus with low ceilings and wooden walls—there’s even a second fireplace, which makes the sitting area EVEN cozier.
- The exposed roof truss and the old wooden beams in the large living room of the shingle house
- The beautiful, large tiled stove in the bedroom of the shingle house
- The wooden deck, which belongs to the “hayloft” living room that becomes an outdoor room in summer; the glazed loggia in the shingle house
- The glazed bathroom wall in the “Wipfelglück”, allowing you to look from the bathtub through the living room and straight out nature
- The beautiful view that you have from all the rooms
- The many beautiful lamps and the atmospheric, cozy lighting—soooo important!
- The garden with barbecue, dining area, soccer field, alpine meadow and a spring
GOOD TO KNOW:
- You can strap on your skis right outside the front door and ski to the family lift on the mountain, then through the forest and back again—perfect for families with children. Of course, you can also toboggan.
- The skiing area is quite small and low key. More demanding skiing areas can be reached within an hour.
- After a winter’s day in the snow, you can make yourself comfortable in the bio / Finnish sauna before going to the separate rest area.
- It goes without saying that entertainment for young travel companions is also provided: In the “shoe stable”, where you’ll find children’s toys as well as toboggans and snowshoes for the winter.
- There’s a bookcase to browse through.
- To have a good rest during the night, there are very good box-spring beds in all bedrooms.
- The kitchens are equipped with all the mod cons—whoever wants to can really let off steam in there!
- There’s a welcome package including a basket with firewood.
- For the little ones, there’s a baby bed, buggy, carrier and high chair available.
- Children can have fun in the surrounding area, for example, on guided llama and alpaca hikes, in the high rope climbing garden with summer toboggan run, swimming in alpine lakes, in the adventure mountain playground or in the adventure swimming pool.
- Honey can be bought on an idyllic farm nearby, further shopping options in pretty village stores can be found in Ebratshofen and in Maienhöfen (a 30-minute hike away).
- For those who don’t feel like cooking for themselves during their vacation, there are plenty of options: If you wish, you can have delicacies prepared and delivered every day by a chef who is a friend of the hosts.
- For the journey in winter, snow chains and four-wheel drives are recommended. In case of high snow, you’ll sometimes have to leave the car in the valley. Then the vacation starts with a romantic winter hike. Without lugging luggage, of course, because the winter luggage is transported free of charge.
