Hotel Miramonti
The Miramonti is a superstar among hotels. World wanderers, nature worshippers, architecture enthusiasts and those seeking peace and quiet come here from all over the place, because hosts Carmen and Klaus Alber have the right thing for all of them—visionary architecture in the midst of wildly romantic nature, rooms and suites featuring the highest level of comfort and exquisite design, an urban lifestyle, a free spirit that flowing through the entire house, and discreet and attentive service that anticipates your every wish. And then there’s the location–on a rocky plateau at an altitude of 1230 meters with spectacular views of the Adige Valley and Vigiljoch and Merano lying at its feet. Carmen and Klaus run the hideaway with a lot of love and warmth. The two have travelled a lot, gathered inspiration for years, built dream castles, spun ideas and hoarded fantasies and looked for the one magical place for their lifelong dream. In 2012, they found it here on the Tschögglberg and have been passionately and courageously implementing their visions for their guests ever since. They modernized the main house, designed new buildings in modern wooden architecture, had living cubes built into rocks, created sky lofts with 12-meter-long window fronts and pools in which you fly towards the mountains. A refuge of superlatives that creates an intimate connection between people, nature and architecture. Where else is there a bridge that leads from a hotel directly into a forest? Or a forest bath therapy with healing effects? “Hard to find and hard to forget” is how the Miramonti wants to be remembered. And they certainly succeed in doing so with all their guests.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The hosts Carmen and Klaus are unconventional, free-thinking spirits, living their dream life—thanks a million for that!
- The wonderful and unusual examples of contemporary architecture.
- Materials and products used almost exclusively from the mountains, forests and valleys of South Tyrol.
- The “Owner’s House”, completed in 2019, with only nine rooms and lots of privacy. The rooms are furnished in a minimalist style with a few designer pieces and handmade products.
- Sky House—simple and spectacular. A wooden cube anchored in the rock with ropes, connected to the main house via a bridge. Carmen and Klaus went all out to realize this design with regional support.
- The Style Lofts and especially Loft Q (named after 007’s inventor), built on rock, with a floating bed and panoramic window front boasting, like everywhere here, magnificent view.
- The bridge directly into the forest and to the pond (discovered in old hotel plans and rebuilt—very romantic!)
- The rooms and suites furnished with specially made furniture from regional handicraft businesses and with timeless design pieces, e.g. Vitra Design and Fritz Hansen.
- The two pools in a dreamlike location—the ONSEN pool, combining Japanese bathing art and alpine relaxation at an altitude of 1230 meters, and the brine infinity pool with a divine panorama, almost unreal in its beauty.
- The sun terrace with loungers (in winter with sleeping bags to wrap up in).
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Guests have a choice of 44 rooms in 22 categories and 5 styles—all are exceptional and of high quality, some with open bathrooms, fireplaces, terraces.
- Of course, breakfast here is also of the finest caliber—food from the Südtirol umbrella brand, home-baked bread, homemade pastries and jams, coffee from the barista and everything else your heart desires.
- In the three restaurants you can also dine exquisitely. There’s the Panorama Restaurant à la carte with all-round glazing, the cozy MIRAMONTI Stube with original 17th century paneling, serving traditional South Tyrolean cuisine and the Klassik half-board restaurant with modern, Mediterranean-inspired cuisine—for those who prefer to sample their way through the surrounding restaurants, that’s fine, too.
- The Miramonti TeaTime invites all guests in the afternoon to enjoy patisserie delights, South Tyrolean apple strudel and fruit from the Biokistl.
- In the elegant bar, enjoy drinks from brands from all over the world or sample the distillates from the neighborhood.
- Children are welcome, there is a playroom and a nanny service on request.
- A James Bond film was once shot in the spectacular surroundings of the Miramonti! This prompted the opening of a cinema room where a 007 film is shown every Sunday.
- The spa area offers plenty of amenities—in addition to the two pools, there’s a relaxation house with an open fireplace and library. There’s a whirlpool with a forest view, a Swedish forest sauna and a wide range of sports and relaxation activities, including yoga, five Tibetans, morning awakening in the forest, forest therapy (forest bathing) and a whole lot more.
- So many opportunities to get active–golfing, hiking, Nordic walking, trekking, running, jogging, paragliding, mountain biking, alpine skiing (hotel’s own ski shuttle to Merano 2000, eight minutes away), snowshoeing, tobogganing, horse-drawn carriage rides, horseback riding, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, winter hiking ....Nothing you fancy? The Miramonti also tries to fulfil special requests.
- A chargeable shuttle service to and from Merano is available.
