Das Chalet
The view is to die for! Make yourself comfortable on the bench by the fireplace, at the dining table, on the sofa, in the double bed, on the terrace or even in one of the saunas—wherever you are, you can look through floor-to-ceiling windows onto an idyll of scattered cottages, meadows, trees and the impressive mountain backdrop towering over everything. If you want to take a break from “looking”, you can strap on your skis or go for a hike—both are possible right behind the house, where the ski lift and hiking trail are conveniently located. But if it’s hard to tear yourself away from the spacious apartments with their cozy corners and lookouts, that’s perfectly understandable. The hosts, Brigitte and Andreas Kahr took a long time planning and collecting ideas for the design of the two vacation apartments in keeping with the way they themselves like to spend their vacations. Since their hearts lie not only in the Alps, but also in the Rocky Mountains (where Andreas lived for a while as a ski instructor), the result is an elegant and unique hideaway in a rustic-modern Alpine style, mixed with a cozy Rocky Mountain cabin vibe. Lots of wood and natural stone, lots of light, cozy sitting areas, terraces, sauna, luxurious bathrooms and a large, tiled stove ensure that you feel right at home here and have recharged your batteries in no time—with your gaze always returning to rest on the mountains.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Indoors or outdoors? Thanks to the panoramic windows and the elevated position, you have a stunning view of Schladming and the Dachstein mountain range.
- Natural materials like wood and stone set the tone throughout the house—we think it’s wonderful.
- The flexible floor plan, each apartment has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The highlight: If there are only two occupants, the two bathrooms become one large bathing paradise and the second bedroom becomes a cozy reading room.
- Both apartments are very spacious and flooded with light.
- The comfortable bench by the tiled stove
- The many thoughtful touches—cuddly furs, extraordinary lamps and fresh flowers. The Kahr family hold the well-being of their guests close to their hearts (and you can feel it!).
- The luxurious bathrooms
- The chalet’s peaceful location is only a few minutes’ walk away from the bustling ski resort of Schladming—so you have the best of both worlds.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Children are welcome; both apartments offer enough space for four people (also great for two families vacationing together).
- The kitchens are very well equipped.
- Both apartments have their own sauna—one of them offers a view of Schladming and the mountains.
- Delicious breakfast items (milk, butter, curd cheese, fresh cheese, homemade jams) can be bought directly from the family farm.
- If you feel like a massage after a hard day of skiing or hiking, it can be arranged for you in the apartment.
- Wonderful in winter: Skiing fun on 230 kilometers of slopes, 97 ski huts provide plenty of options for a break. The chalet has direct access to the 4-Berge-Ski-Schaukel area, you can take the lift up to Planar as well as Hochwurzen.
- Just as wonderful in summer: Hiking trails abound, around 1000 kilometers of them, plus 930 kilometers of cycling and mountain bike routes, 45 running and Nordic walking trails, 4 golf courses and 14 fixed rope climbs on the Dachstein south walls. Other activities include rafting, canyoning, archery, paragliding, summer skiing and cross-country skiing.
- Schladming is about 100 kilometers away from Salzburg.
- You can arrive comfortably by train; Schladming train station is only 500 meters away.
- Don’t worry if both apartments are fully booked, the Kahr family also runs the Ramsbergerhof in Ramsau am Dachstein (the plateau above Schladming).
