Corte Campioli
It’s one of those places where your stay will simply be too short—no matter how long you stay. Because as soon as you arrive at the boutique hotel and country house in the Italian Marche region, surrounded by fields of sunflowers, hills, meadows and gnarled olive trees, a carefree sense of lightness sets in. Needless to say, you’ll want to hold on to that feeling forever. The main building has been lovingly renovated, a pigsty converted and a bar set up in the former garage. What used to be a traditional hay barn is now a chill-out area in the courtyard—a kind of outdoor living room that exudes a touch of Italian piazza flair. On warm days, people can be found chatting, drinking wine and feasting among lush flowerbeds. The hosts Claudia and Bernd, a yoga school owner and an interior designer from Bochum, have created a feel-good atmosphere on the 150-year-old estate. Corte Campioli now has individually furnished, high-quality rooms and suites, which can be used as self-catering apartments or with hotel service. All of them are airy, decorated in bright colors and furnished with modern furniture and antique treasures. The historic oak ceiling beams and exposed fieldstone walls in many of the accommodations look really stunning, and are complemented by an understated and functional design. Even when all the rooms and suites are fully booked, you and other guests will never get in each other’s way on the extensive estate. Depending on your mood, you can get together for a pasta evening or retreat to a quiet spot in the garden or a sun lounger by the pool. It’s best to alternate between the two—and plan your return to this place of longing (together or individually)—so the pain of saying goodbye will only hurt half as much.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The successful mix of sleek, straightforward design and the traditional regional farmhouse style
- The beautiful decorative pieces, which have been collected from antique stores and flea markets around the world: Disused vegetable crates, pharmacy bottles, a vintage telephone, travel chests, brass crockery and the many large glass balloons in the garden
- The secluded location in the Marche hills and the fantastic view of meadows, fields and the village of Sorbolongo
- The 14-metre-long saltwater pool with relaxation area in the midst of beautiful nature
- The spectacular sunsets that you can watch here, preferably with a gentle breeze rustling through the olive trees and the chirping of crickets
- The large garden where oleanders, hydrangeas and lavender grow
- The historic hay barn “Il Fienile” opposite the main house; the cozy lounge furniture makes a wonderful place to relax.
- Claudia is a qualified yoga teacher and offers wonderful classes both online and in the hotel to promote relaxation and well-being.
- Dinner is organized twice a week: Monday is pasta night with homemade pasta with truffles, wild boar, seafood or vegetables from the garden. On Wednesday, fish or meat is on the menu. And to finish, there are delicious desserts such as panna cotta or tiramisu.
- Immerse yourself in the local lifestyle, for example, at a wine festival or on a truffle hunt with Luigi, which the hosts are happy to organize.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- There are five luxury rooms for two to three people in the old country house. The “Corte” room is on the first floor, while “Torre”, “Laghetto” and “Convento” are on the second floor—they can be combined to make up a shared apartment. The “Il Cubo” suite for two to three people with its five-meter glass front is perfect for fans of modern architecture.
- The “Casa Michele” with its loft feel is a new build. It houses the two suites “Uno” for two to three people and “Due” for two to four people: These can be combined with each other on request.
- The detached cottage “La Capanna” for two to three people offers a sweeping view of the countryside and the villages of Barchi and Sorbolongo.
- The delicious breakfast with homemade bread, muesli and cereals, yoghurt and ricotta, eggs from neighboring farms and coffee from the portafilter machine is included in the accommodation price.
- Almost all accommodation has a terrace and its own kitchen or small kitchenette.
- The honesty bar “Corte” offers drinks and snacks at any time of the day or night.
- The Cucina Commune, a large communal area with a beautiful kitchen and a fireplace, is open to all guests. Claudia and Bernd are currently working on creating a special space for cooking and enjoyment.
- The pool season runs from May to mid-October.
- Air conditioning ensures a pleasant coolness on hot summer days.
- Care products are available for guests.
- There are many great destinations for excursions and sights in the region: Pretty villages, historic buildings, nature parks and great beaches. Urbino with its Palazzo Ducale is a must-see, as is the paper town of Fabriano further south.
