Rosso

Sometimes you find that special places really do exist, places where you feel a touch freer and where everything in the world seems good. Rosso in Altusried in the Allgäu is just such a place—fruit trees, chickens, bees, and swings. In amongst it an old farmhouse in which old and new, color and simplicity are mixed together in just the right amounts. This idyll has been created by a young couple Lisa and Christian, creative director and start-up founder. They left the hip Karo district in Hamburg for the mountains in the south of the country in search of a quieter life surrounded by nature. Here in the Allgäu, they’ve found their happiness in the form of an old farmhouse, which they’ve transformed into an Italian-style country estate with a lot of love and a good eye for architecture and style. The two are passionate about Italy, together with its culinary delights and the relaxed way of life found there. Fortunately for their guests, they are happy to share this rural dolce vita with great generosity. Amongst the gnarled beams of the old barn, where previously hay for the animals was stored, the three wonderful lodgings of “La Bella”, “La Famiglia” and “La Grande” have moved in. There is old wood, lime render, high ceilings, and lots of light. It’s simple and comfortable, contemporary and quaint all at the same time. There are fully equipped kitchens, large wooden tables where everyone can sit, high ceilings, really comfortable beds, hand-picked farmhouse furniture, cozy daybeds, flowers, linen, and warmth. There’s also a large balcony to watch the sunset and a sun terrace in the courtyard where you can sit in front of red quarry-stone walls, listen to the birds and watch the six chickens take a stroll with their rooster. Nothing and no one rushes you through the day here—this is a place to stop and take life in.  

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

• Where do we start, where do we stop? Here we go—the beautiful wooden house that looks so warm and inviting even from afar, the jasmine above the front door and the many flowers, plants and grasses—in planters, beds and on natural meadows
• The use of a lot of old wood, inside and out
• The hanging chairs (rocking makes you happy!) in “La Bella” and “La Famiglia”
• So many beautiful details—vases, lamps, carpets, tiles—a home from home
• The beautiful open kitchens with pretty tiles and the freestanding bathtubs in the bedrooms
• In “La Famiglia” children sleep in bespoke carpenter-made alcove beds—the little ones will love them (and hopefully want to stay in them for as long as possible)
• The very high ceilings in "La Bella"
• From the biggest lodging “La Grande” you have a view of beautiful sunrises, the Zugspitze can also be seen in the distance
• The terrace with barbecue and fireplace for warm summer evenings
• The beautiful “Atelier der langen Weile”—a room for everyone, with kitchen, long wooden table, books, music and swing and a big fireplace for a crackling fire
• The lawn with sun loungers and of course swings, also a view of the Alps

GOOD TO KNOW:

• The three apartments are 68, 80 and 90 square meters in size
• Children are welcome—highchair, baby bed, bamboo dishes and cutlery, shower tray, games, books— the little ones are well catered for. But the most beautiful playground is the yard itself
• All three apartments have a big sunny balcony
• There is also a sauna built of old wood, with pine infusions
• der Hof liegt inmitten des Allgäus und doch abseits der Pfade des Ouvertourism. Zu entdecken gibt es dennoch Einiges, z.B. die unentdeckten Wälder der Adelegg, die sanften Hügel von Eschach oder die Flussschleife im Naturparadies der Iller, Alpen und Bodensee sind in Sichtweite
• Regional products for breakfast and dinner are conveniently available in the farm store next door
• You are welcome to help yourself in the beautifully flourishing herb garden
• For special events “the studio” can be rented, e.g. for meditation, yoga or creative activities
