Delvers Duinhuis

Around 254 kilometers of the Dutch North Sea coast consist entirely of dunes. An unbelievably large variety of plants thrive in the midst of these sand hills. And what's more, of the country's 190 breeding bird species, around 140 nest here. No wonder then that the dunes are considered a habitat particularly worthy of protection. The Delvers Duinhuis is located in Egmond aan den Hoef, at the very edge of this impressive landscape, just five minutes by bike to the North Sea. Or for that matter, just minutes from anywhere you’d like to visit: the water, the forest, a café, a restaurant ... and yet the Delvers Duinhuis is pleasantly quiet. Two floors, a large south-facing terrace, a garden and even a sauna in the bathroom offer a maximum of six guests plenty of space to play, retreat, and relax. The view from the large windows directly onto the lively landscape of the dune reserve is balm for the soul. But the interior of the house also exudes a genuine feel-good ambience. The hosts Linda and Koen have chosen the furnishings with a remarkable sense of aesthetics and great attention to detail. The interior is modern and, with its light colors, perfectly tuned to the surroundings. Special pieces like the dining table by Piet Hein Eek set great accents. The Dutch designer’s specialty is upcycling found materials into something brilliant and new. The surfboard on the living room wall is particularly clever – it connects the house to the dunes to the sea ... and every visitor is free to create his or her own little holiday story from what is there. One thing is clear: it will be wonderful.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

• Pure idyll: the Delvers Duinhuis, along with 18 other luxurious dune villas, is located in the holiday park Duinpark Egmond, which was built in 2017 around an old windmill; the houses are all far enough apart from each other to ensure privacy.
• If you have ever been to Holland, you know that you can't do anything here without a bike; if you want to rent one, BikeMike will bring one right to your house.
• You’ll sleep like a baby! Maybe it's the bedcovers from By Mölle, a label for timeless, handmade textiles made of natural materials; maybe it's the fact that every bedroom is equipped with an insect screen - simply dreamy!
• There really is everything you need, all within walking distance: cafés, bakery, supermarket - and even a little wooden wagon in the house so that you can easily transport your shopping.
• When the evening comes, you should definitely get comfy on the large south-facing terrace: with a fire in the outdoor fireplace and on the patio furniture by the French manufacturer Fermob; for children there is even an extra area with a sandpit, enclosed by a net, so that nobody can wander.

GOOD TO KNOW:

• The rental price includes final cleaning, firewood, bed linen, towels, kitchen towels and Marie-Stella-Maris care products, a natural cosmetics label from Amsterdam.
• One of the hosts' favorite restaurants is the Comer, right on the beach in Egmond aan Zee with a fabulous view of the North Sea; for children, the Nieuw-Westert is really great, a small historic farm in Egmond-Binnen with a lovely sunny terrace.
• The countryside around Egmond, the artists' village Bergen, and the town of Alkmaar are perfect for exploring on foot or by bike.
• The pedestrian zone in Egmond aan Zee (about five minutes by bike) is a great place to shop or enjoy delicious Italian ice cream from Pravisani.
