destinature Dorf Hitzacker

Drinking the first coffee of the morning on your own terrace while watching the bees at work? Lying in a hammock to while away the day? Walking barefoot across a meadow picking flowers? Anyone who likes to be out in nature all day long, but also wants a bit of comfort, will be right at home at this “nature hotel”: destinature Dorf Hitzacker is a charming little village in the Wendland, but it’s not a ‘rundling’ or circular village, typical for this area. Here, beside the Elbe, seventeen stylish tiny houses and six beds-to-go can be found nestled in a plot of land brimming with nature. There’s also an organic bistro and an outdoor wellness area. Sound good? We think it’s “simple luxury”. Eva and Holger Danneberg, founders of the furniture manufacturer WERKHAUS, have realized their vision of comfortable and entirely sustainably built accommodation in the middle of nature with this ecologically designed village. On a site with mature trees, they’ve created a vacation destination for families, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. There’s everything you could wish for, without the frills but with lots of birdsong and grass under your feet. The houses are equipped with all the essentials: Beds, storage space, seating, a lounge area and dining areas. And all this is achieved using the WERKHAUS concept of materials with click-together joins that are easy to disassemble and reassemble. The entire village has been designed in such a way that it could be completely dismantled—leaving no lasting damage to nature. Here, sustainability isn’t just a beautiful idea, it’s very much put into practice. A wonderful example of ecological tourism that’s fun!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • Meeting people who feel at home in the outdoors and want to be amongst nature.
  • Comfortable eco-mattresses instead of air mattresses, slipping into freshly made beds instead of sleeping bags—the simple life with a touch of luxury
  • The natural wellness offer: Three outdoor saunas (for up to 6 people), an outdoor shower and a heated hot tub are located in a part of the village shielded by bushes and trees—wood burning stoves ensure perfect temperatures
  • Bed linen specially designed for the accommodation with cute illustrations
  • Each hut has its own terrace with dining area and a secluded hammock.
  • The “hut plus” has its own private area with a sink and dry toilet, other residents use the washhouse.
  • It’s eco at heart: Everything is made and constructed from environmentally friendly building materials; there’s green electricity, solar panel power and the bistro serves organic products.
  • The cabins are built entirely of natural wood from certified forests–of course!
  • The village includes 17 tiny houses and 6 beds-to-go and a washhouse with showers and toilets, family bathroom with changing table, outdoor sink and barrier-free access.
