EcoQuartier biYou
Be you. It’s right there in the name of the Eco-quartier biYou in Schladming-Rohrmoos in Styria. A place to do your mind and body a world of good, surrounded by the beautiful Alpine scenery at an altitude of almost 1,000 meters. Host Karin Seebacher, yoga teacher and herbalist, and her husband Franz, architect and beekeeper, have put their heart and soul into transforming the former family home into an organic hotel with a focus on yoga and sustainability. Just looking at the traditionally built house with its colorful flower boxes and modern lettering, it is clear that their love for the region is deeply rooted, but that a fresh wind is also blowing. This is evident in the clean design of the fifteen rooms and studios as well as the three cabins in the garden: all are designed with clear lines and lots of light wood, and large glass fronts offer views of the surrounding landscape. Muted natural tones are broken up by lively accents such as a lounge chair in red and turquoise or pastel coffee tables. From here, after a restful night's sleep, you can set off on a day full of outdoor adventures, fuelled by a breakfast in the Bistro Bergkristall consisting of fresh, regional, and Ayurvedic-inspired dishes. Those in the mood for active relaxation will soon find themselves on the outdoor yoga platform in the fresh mountain air and with a panoramic view of the Schladminger Tauern, where they can enjoy some bending and stretching. Depending on the season and your preferences, you can hit the slopes or go ice bathing, mountain biking, hiking, and forest bathing, or refresh yourself in the lake or under the waterfall. Take a deep breath, slow down, recharge your batteries. At this retreat, the concept of sustainability is evident everywhere – even in the relaxation factor.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The straightforward and clean-lined furnishings; nothing is superfluous here – even a star-shaped decorative object turns out to be a coat rack at second glance. The abundance of wood and natural materials immediately creates a cozy atmosphere.
- The large windows everywhere provide beautiful views, creating places where you can let your mind wander – especially in the yoga rooms and the sauna.
- The freestanding tiny houses in the garden, built entirely of wood, offer a view of the greenery from the double bed – and of the stars through the panoramic window in the roof.
- The lovingly prepared breakfast buffet, served in mason jars and pretty ceramics, with homemade spreads, freshly baked bread, miso soup, and the world's best honey from hobby beekeeper Franz.
- The cozy arbor in the garden, a favorite place to savor the moment in the evening with a glass of wine or beer as the sun disappears behind the mountains.
- The fact that herbs and vegetables from the raised bed in the garden often find their way onto the breakfast buffet or are turned into power drinks in green smoothies.
- The yoga program with daily classes and the chance to practice asanas in the mountains. The soundtrack in the background brings body and mind into a state of deep relaxation. And in summer, Karin even organizes a yoga festival in the village.
- The regular retreats, where, for example, you can take an ice bath à la Wim Hof or fast according to the Dr. Buchinger method.
- The hotel is climate-neutral, uses solar energy, and avoids plastic. Be it food, bed linen, furniture, or care products – everything is as regional and environmentally friendly as possible. The ecological footprint is only 2.89 kg CO² per guest per night.
- Outdoor fun begins right outside the door. When you step outside in winter, you are almost on one of the slopes of the 4-mountain ski area, one of the largest ski resorts in Austria. On top of that, there are plenty of hiking, mountain biking, and e-bike trails nearby.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The hotel has 15 rooms and studios, all with balconies or terraces. The rooms can accommodate up to 4 people, and the studios with balconies are suitable for up to 6 people. In the garden, there are three cabins with double beds and sleeping lofts, which are suitable for up to 2 adults and 2 children.
- Children are very welcome – but if parents need a break, there is also a babysitting service.
- A quick note about the cabins: there is a ladder leading up to the children's sleeping loft. This is no problem for children aged 4 and above, but is not suitable for very young children – just ask the helpful hosts about baby cots and extra beds!
- Both the studios and the tiny houses are equipped with a kitchenette.
- Everyone is welcome: families, couples, groups, solo travelers. Children up to 3 years old stay for free, and there are special children's rates for children 3 years and older. External guests can also register for the open yoga classes or breakfast.
- Organic breakfast buffet, pillow selection, 1 yoga class, yoga mat, bathrobe, use of the wellness area with Finnish sauna, and a cleaning service every other day are included in the price.
- The culinary start to the day focuses on fermented foods, probiotic ingredients, and invigorating drinks that promote energy and well-being—and, of course, vegetarian and vegan options.
- Whether for seminars, meetings, workations, or workshops, the hosts are happy to assist with planning business events. Two bright rooms are available for this purpose, with great amenities and large windows overlooking the greenery and direct access to the garden. A customized supporting program can be created on request.
- Each accommodation has a free parking space, e-charging stations are available, as well as a shoe and ski room with ski boot dryer, and hiking backpacks and poles for hire.
- High-quality wifi is available throughout the Ecoquartier and in the cabins. However, for a healthier night's sleep, it is switched off between 11:00 pm and 7:30 am.
- Schladming is part of the Ski Amadé ski area. The local mountain at biYou is the Hochwurzen – commuting to Planai, Reiteralm, and Hauser Kaibling is very easy. Ski-in is the motto, with the last run leading directly to the hotel. Ski bus stops, ski school, ski rental, cross-country ski trails, and ski bus stops are all nearby.
- Just a six-minute drive (or a short walk) away, the Alpine town of Schladming offers restaurants and supermarkets.
- From Salzburg, it takes a good hour to drive to biYou (90 kilometers), and from Munich, it takes 2.5 hours (220 kilometers). The nearest train station is in Schladming.
