Farnhaus
Up here on the slope above the village of Tirol, at the edge of the forest, is where the fern grows. There used to be a whole meadow full of ferns, that magical shade-loving plant. Hikers have always been drawn to the Farmer's Crossing at the fern meadow. That is why the first inn opened here many years ago. The cuisine: down-to-earth and good. In 2007, the innkeepers‘ sons expanded the locale into a popular and Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant with first-class cuisine, crowned by a phenomenal view. But to every thing there is a season, and in 2022 it was time to find a new purpose for the property. The next generation kept it in the family, and converted the restaurant into a residence and guest house. Stefan and his wife Franziska moved in themselves and now offer two apartments in the house to holiday guests. As a photographer and restaurateur, the couple has the best prerequisites to ensure that guests are more than satisfied all around. Her eye for beautiful details, his for good service, and both for excellent quality in the choice of materials are beautifilly evident in the two guest apartments. The ferns‘ lush green and filigree structure are picked up at every turn. Slatted room dividers separate living areas, the dark green of the sofa invites you to relax, and light green of the bathroom is invigorating. The absolute highlight, however, is the spectacular view: the entire Adige Valley lies at your feet, a wonder at any time of day or night. In order to ensure that guests can duly enjoy the view, the apartments not only have a huge panoramic window, but also a large private terrace with dining table and deck chairs. The ferns and the house fit together wonderfully – like the primordial plant, the rooms are simultaneously delicate and down-to-earth. Firmly rooted on a slope, the house presents itself to the valley basin with a frank openness that almost makes you dizzy with happiness.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Green, green, green - the lush green of the interior design grounds you and connects you to the outside.
- The huge panorama window in the living room is the absolute highlight.
- The terrace is a second living room outdoors: 25 square meters with a view of the mountains, Merano, Tirol and the Vinschgau Valley.
- Great idea: out of sight, out of mind! A sliding element hides the kitchenette, making it easy to put off the washing up until tomorrow....
- The insistence on high-quality materials, both for the conversion and the furnishing
- The hosts know a good sleep is all-important: the apartments have high-quality mattresses, first-class duvets and pillows, and fine sheets and duvet covers, all specially made in the region.
- The location in the midst of nature: the Farnhaus is in a quiet area and yet easy and quick to reach.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Each apartment is 44 sqm, with a living-dining area, sleeping area, bathroom, and large terrace (25 sqm).
- The hosts live on site themselves and are happy to give any advice about the region.
- Good hillside location: the Farnhaus, at an altitude of 850 m, is easy to reach by car and still in the great outdoors; in three minutes you are in the village of Tirol.
- Room for 2 guests - and a third person (or child) also fits on the couch.
- The two apartments are next to each other and are perfect for two couples travelling together.
- There is no TV, but you don't need one. The built-in “big screen“ – the 5-meter wide panorama window – offers your own private viewing of nature’s cinema.
- Just step out the door and you can start hiking on the region’s popular hiking trails.
- Excursion tip: a tour with the cable car to the Hochmuth and further to the Spronser Seenplatte is highly recommended.
