Fusenhof
Creaking floorboards, centuries-old ceiling beams, the scent of wood and history – this Black Forest house, built in 1754, has such a long and exciting history that it almost became an open-air museum. As one of the region’s oldest farms that has been preserved in its original form, it is a special architectural monument where vacationers can now spend their holidays. The house, with its sweeping hipped roof, stands on the edge of the Dreisamtal valley between meadows and fields, with the Black Forest mountains rising in the distance. With the catchphrase “The old stays old, the new becomes new” as a guideline, the property was renovated over five years, in accordance with historic preservation guidelines, with great sensitivity and a sense for aesthetics and design. Today, you can gather here with friends and family and dream yourself back to the life of the farm's former inhabitants. The original structure has been preserved, so it is easy to see where the stables, hayloft, threshing floor, living area, and servants' quarters were once located—with the comfortable addition of modern amenities. The heart of the hostel is the former kitchen with the historic open fireplace at its center a ceiling height of four meters and panoramic windows. A black fitted kitchen replaces the open hearth where the farming families used to prepare their meals. The long wooden table with dining chairs in pastel shades is the perfect place to philosophize about yesterday, today, and tomorrow over home-cooked food, and look forward to your very own Night at the Museum.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- How charmingly the past and present come together, like the centuries-old wooden elements and a stylish black designer kitchen.
- The minimalist furnishings (many of which were custom-made!), which allow the old house to take center stage.
- The unusual details waiting around every corner, such as the barrel on the terrace that has been converted into an umbrella stand, an old milk can as decoration, a historic pitchfork in the modern bathroom, or racing bikes attached to the wall as eye-catchers.
- Traditionally, the farmhouses were built from silver fir from the Black Forest. All the windows and doors that were added later and the wraparound balcony are made of the same wood, so that the new elements remain visible as such, but still blend harmoniously with the old.
- The bedrooms with their low ceilings, small windows, and wooden walls that radiate warmth and comfort.
- Could there be a more beautiful spot for reading, talking, and dozing than the lounge area by the fireplace? No, not really...
- How faithfully the ancient farmhouse has been preserved, mainly because it has always been lived in and served its original purpose.
- That there is so much space and so many beautiful spots to retreat to, both inside and outside. Plus: the garden offers magnificent views of the surrounding valleys.weglichkeiten gibt. Plus: Vom Garten aus öffnen sich herrliche Ausblicke in die umliegenden Täler
- Barbecuing over a wood fire in the garden!
- The location at the foot of the Black Forest mountains, surrounded by wide meadows and fields, with great opportunities for hiking, cycling, swimming, and gliding.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The approximately 260 square meter living area for guests is spread over 2 levels – with an open kitchen, corner room with wraparound windows and fireplace, and a lounge with TV.
- The three original bedrooms with custom-made beds can accommodate 6 people.
- If required, an additional bedroom and a small apartment are available, which includes a separate bathroom and a kitchenette. The rooms are connected by doors and, as there are only simple wooden walls, they are only rented together with the main apartment – meaning that the house can accommodate up to 10 people. separates Bad und eine Teeküche. Die Räume sind durch Türen verbunden und da es nur einfache Holzwände gibt, werden sie nur zusammen mit der Hauptwohnung vermietet – wodurch bis zu 10 Personen im Haus Platz haben
- Children are welcome, but please note that the staircase and balcony railings are not fall-proof due to the renovation in line with historic preservation guidelines. Cribs and high chairs are not available, but can be brought along if needed.
- The kitchen, entrance, and bathrooms have floor heating, while all other rooms are heated by radiators.wehrenradiatoren
- This location is ideal for families or friends who want to spend time together in a large group – and for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.
- From here, you can also take city tours in various directions: to Freiburg, Mulhouse, and Strasbourg in France, or Basel and Zurich in Switzerland.
- Despite its seclusion, everything you need is just a few minutes away by car: supermarkets, farm shops, and cafés.
- The focus here is on environmentally and climate-friendly tourism: with green electricity and wood pellets for heating. In addition, the hosts maintain their orchard meadow, plant young trees, and contribute to global CO2 compensation.
