Grundlers Gästehaus am See
The best parties take place in the kitchen! People gather around the stove or table, chat, drink a glass of something and tell stories. The Grundlers wanted to create such a social hub for their beautiful guesthouse on the Bavarian Wörthsee. Here, you can sit down with the entire family on designer chairs at long tables or you can have a nice chat with the other guests. And those tiles ... wow! There are beautiful rooms, too—of course with lots of wood, partitions made of metal and glass, cozy armchairs and sofas and wallpaper in a mix of patterns. It’s a successful mix of Upper Bavarian craftsmanship, Italian carpentry and the ideas of an innovative South Tyrolean design office—or in short: Industrial design with a good helping of hygge. The guesthouse is part of an ecologically managed farm and has been in the family for half a century. In addition to the garden, barbecue area and fireplace for making campfire bread, there’s even a private mountain for fun sledding in the winter. Wonderful! And did we mention that the bright blue, crystal clear Wörthsee is right on your doorstep and is perfect for swimming and paddling? Oh Bavaria, we love you!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The high-quality interior—the Grundler family has put a lot of love into the redesign of the guesthouse (and also thought about sustainability).
- The large kitchen area is a meeting point for everyone—each living quarter has its own cooking facilities, its own refrigerator compartment and additional storage space.
- Breakfast can be taken in the kitchen or on the terrace (where you can also sit any time with a coffee or a glass of wine).
- The numerous lovely details like wallpapers, cushions, blankets, armchairs, and lamps are perfectly coordinated with each other.
- The successful color palette
- The partition walls made of metal and glass in the rooms look great and are reminiscent of France.
- The great location: Swimming, hiking, biking in idyllic surroundings in the Fünfseenland as well as city life and culture—Munich is not far away.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- You have different options for breakfast. You can cater for yourself or you can let yourself be pampered and choose the “Tischlein-deck-dich” option—you’ll be served up the finest organically produced and regional produce.
- Children are welcome and sleep in specially designed furniture—up to the age of 18 there is only a small surcharge. They can play in the garden, a trampoline is available, and there are regular campfire bread evenings at the fireplace.
- Each living quarter gets its own iPad for the stay—so you can safely leave your own devices at home.
- There are seasonal cooking events and culinary themed evenings in cooperation with the resident caterer Artculinaire—Engelmeier.
- With its several pieces on display The Grundlers is part of the sculpture route by the Wörthsee.
- The Wörthsee is right at your door, but there are other beautiful lakes nearby, including the Starnberger See—all with top water quality.
- Mountain bikers—there are many great mountain bike trails here.
- Other worthwhile destinations in the surrounding area and the foothills of the Alps include Andechs Monastery, GAP, Lenggries, Füssen (hiking, mountain biking, skiing, tobogganing, summer tobogganing), Ettal Monastery, Neuschwanstein Castle, the Zugspitze mountain range.
- There’s a garage for bicycles and sports equipment.
- Munich is only a stone’s throw away by car or in a more environmentally friendly way with the S-Bahn (suburban train)—it only takes 30-45 minutes.
