Haidl Madl
Host Ingrid Haidl-Madl has lovingly rebuilt her childhood home in the Bavarian Forest—a 300-year-old estate with a courtyard and beautiful garden—creating a great balance between traditional and modern architecture and furnishings. Her motto is “wilderness instead of wellness”, in fact, she relies entirely on the natural healing effect of nature to promote wellness. Rightly so, because the patch of earth on which the Haidl Mail stands is surrounded by colorful flower meadows, wooded hills, moorland, small streams and lakes. This untouched piece of nature is indeed a little paradise! But inside it’s also exceptionally beautiful! This is because Ingrid Haidl-Madl has a keen eye and by focusing on the essentials and selecting eco-friendly materials, she’s created a place that’s inviting, stylish and of unmistakable personality. Small details that perfectly complement the otherwise simple aesthetics catch the eye. Wonderfully thought out, everything’s arranged with a lot of love and attention.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The cozy, large, old farmhouse stands on a six-hectare property; due to its careful cultivation, there’s a colorful and species-rich flora and fauna here, for example, 18 (!) different bird species can be found here.
- The beautiful and spacious garden with old fruit trees, herb beds, the cottage garden, shady and sunny places to read; let your thoughts wander or drink coffee in knee-high grass on the lawn or the mowed paths, on the flower terrace, in the hammock or on the garden lounger.
- The various wooden terraces as places of pure relaxation, all embedded in wild nature
- The three accommodation options—the “Nest”, the ”Hermann Lenz”* apartment and the “Alte Liebe”—each tell their own story. They have been fitted out with local wood. Many pieces of high-quality new designer furniture, changed every now and then, can be found in the rooms; some of it can be purchased in the adjacent store.
- Details such as the tiled stove, an old chest or the view of exposed masonry provide small glimpses into the 300-year-old history of the house.
- There’s no need to pack any books—there’s a well-stocked library on site with many books about the mystical Bohemian Forest, from local artists and small publishers.
- Wild nature pure provides that outdoor adventure feeling.
- The location: You can start hiking directly from here and immerse yourself in nature.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Ingrid lives in the house herself and is happy to give tips, she offers an organic breakfast and regular homemade cakes. Bookable as B&B
- There’s an adjacent store offering selected furniture, furnishings and kitchen furniture, with a lot of beautiful things from the region. House guests get a discount on everything except furniture—it’s worth it, because the range boasts a very special selection of products.
- Suitable for sensitive sleepers: Special attention has been paid to the choice of furnishings and materials in the bedrooms.
- In summer, two bicycles can be rented on site for trips into nature, for example, into the nearby Bohemian Forest, as the house is located directly on the Czech border.
- A fire bowl and a barbecue are waiting for sociable evenings in the garden.
- Wouldn't mind a little yoga session? Everything is possible. Whether in the apartment, in the multifunctional room or on the sun terraces. Sustainable yoga mats are available.
- In winter, you can enjoy the nearby skiing areas with guaranteed snow, the cross-country skiing track directly in front of the house or the neighboring ski lift.
- The blue room serves as a cozy living room with a Swedish stove, a coffee and espresso machine and a small house bar, It sometimes even becomes a home cinema with selected documentaries.
- For everyone who wants to combine vacation and work: Thanks to fast internet for video conferencing and data uploads and downloads, workations are also possible. The beautiful surroundings offer plenty of inspiration for creative work!
