Haus am See
If you don’t believe in love at first sight, you should have a chat with Petra Glinski and Karl Ulrich. When the media people were searching for a house in the countryside, for change and for something ‘completely different’, they came across the building in Ramsau, Upper Bavaria, which was built between 1915 and 1917. And that was it—they were hooked. Situated between flowering meadows and right on the edge of the forest, the house at the Hintersee was exactly what they had been dreaming of. Enthusiastically exploring the 370-square-meter house, which was still quite dilapidated at the time, they marveled at the arcades and bay windows, discovered stylistic elements from the neo-baroque and art nouveau periods, looked out from the garden at the lake, shimmering in all shades of green and blue and thought: This is it! Too big, too far off the beaten track, too kitschy, too broken? None of that mattered! After all, doubts were only there to be dispelled. Under strict monument protection regulations and in collaboration with Munich architect Florian Nagler, they began the renovation, which took almost three years. Since spring 2024, this special place has been welcoming guests who are interested in architecture, design and art, enjoy spending time in nature, are looking for a photo and film location or a place to celebrate, take time out, receive coaching or find a new direction. Combining Alpine architecture with modern design, furniture and lighting from different eras and classic craftsmanship, the two have created a real masterpiece. The neighborhood is full of exciting hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Original wood paneling, antique stoves, vintage pieces. And the magnificent view of the imposing blue ice glacier, the dense forest and the lake reveals itself again and again. And is that really a pedalo swan bobbing over the gentle waters in the distance—have we already grabbed its attention? Not entirely unlike this project that’s grabbed ours with all the thought and care that’s gone into every detail...
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The successful combination of original fixtures and fittings, historical furnishings, midcentury and contemporary accents, art and design classics that make every room special
- The many small things that make a big impact: The vintage coffee set from Arzberg, the champagne glasses that are so reminiscent of the 1950s, the ceramic vases from the 1960s or the cool Stilnovo pieces
- The original tiled stove with nature paintings that you could just as easily imagine in a museum
- If you’ve always wanted to sleep in a ‘real’ four-poster bed, this is the place! The antiquarian bed (bought at auction by the hosts) is fantastically beautiful.
- The fresh flowers that make the interior of the house look even more inviting
- The large bay window spanned by a vaulted ceiling which is filled entirely by a couch. A great spot for a cappuccino in the afternoon, long conversations or to get some good ideas.
- Whether from the spacious outdoor seating area, the surrounding balcony with colorful woodwork or the daybed by the window, there is no shortage of beautiful places to enjoy the view of the lake and the blue ice glacier here.
- The secluded location on one hectare of land, surrounded by forest, meadows, birdsong and plenty of fresh air
- The fact that the house has its own spring—with ice-cold, clear water straight from the mountains
- When it comes to outdoor activities, there’s plenty to do here: Hiking, mountaineering, climbing, winter sports, swimming, cycling or golf
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The entire house is let, and up to eight people can stay here. Events are possible for up to 40 people (further accommodation is available nearby). The rooms can also be rented individually on request (Midcentury, Bauernstube, Hintersee-Suite)
- Bookings are made per day, not per night. The advantage: There are no fixed times for check-in and check-out. Guests can come when they want and stay as long as they like on the day of departure.
- The house features a kitchen and dining room, bay window and fireplace room on the ground floor as well as a lounge, three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor.
- The three bedrooms come in completely different looks: ‘Midcentury’ combines fifties flair and modern art. In the ‘Bauernstube’, guests can expect traditional and antique farmhouse furniture. And the ‘Hintersee Suite’ offers (in addition to the sensational four-poster bed) 66 square meters of space spread over two rooms.
- Larger party? If required, a room that actually belongs to the private part of the ensemble can also be booked, which has a sofa bed in it.
- The guest kitchen has everything you need to chop and cook in a convivial atmosphere. There’s also a La Marzocco espresso machine, which will make every coffee lover’s heart beat faster. The dining room has a table for up to 14 people.
- High-speed internet and Bluetooth speakers are available.
- The linen bedclothes and the extra fluffy towels feel really good.
- For relaxing in the garden: Outdoor furniture and fire bowls provide a cozy atmosphere.
- The barn with around 100 square meters can also be used for events.
- mit dem Auto ab München braucht man knappe anderthalb Stunden zum Haus; der nächstgelegene Flughafen ist Salzburg und in knapp 40 Minuten zu erreichen, eine E-Ladestation ist vorhanden
- Minimum stay of 3 nights
