Heimat 1883
The carpenter Martin, the lumber raftsman's daughter Theresia, and the wagoner Brattihannes were at home here, in Heimat 1883, an inn in the center of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Upper Bavarian Alps. With spectacular views of majestic peaks, plus crystal-clear lakes, lush meadows and fresh mountain air. This beautiful retreat has a long tradition of making people feel at home. For decades, the former village poorhouse gave numerous locals a home. The house holds plenty stories, and the hosts Irene and Anton are happy to share them. In 2013, the couple took over the house, which dates back to the 17th century, and lovingly renovated it. The listed façade was expertly repaired, and the interior was completely renovated using only high-quality natural materials. The result is five exclusive holiday flats, all of which have five stars, are named after former residents and allow you to experience history with all your senses; for example, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a view of old brickwork. The high-quality interior is kept in modern design, old structures wonderfully combined with modern elements. With the exception of the 220m² carpenter's flat under the roof, all the flats have two floors. So there's enough space for social gatherings, and still plenty of opportunities for retreat. Of course, there's plenty to do in the mountains: hiking, cycling, climbing or mountaineering, and every conceivable winter sport. Relax in the sauna, steam bath, on the floating loungers, or at the refreshment bar in the hotel's own wellness area. Simply wonderful! A home away from home, at least for the duration of your stay.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The picturesque mountain landscape of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with incredible views of the peaks of the Wetterstein, Ammer and Ester mountains! And vis-à-vis the beautiful baroque parish church of St. Martin
- The modern comfort within historic walls: an entirely successful mix of old and new
- The refreshing atmosphere of the rooms, which results from the use of high-quality natural materials such as loam plaster and natural woods; in addition, muted colors, straight-lined solid wood furniture and the scent of Swiss stone pine.
- The adjoining loggia is a real favorite: here you can even get up close and personal with the sheep.
- The many feel-good moments, like on a floating lounger in the wellness area; just let your soul dangle!
- The feeling of freedom in the Stierthaler flat – the open-plan living and dining area leads directly out onto the terrace.
- In Heimat 1883 you can reach out and touch history, like the old masonry in the staircase.
- The friendly hosts always have time for a chat, whether on the bench out front, while hunting herbs or mushrooms, or at a wine tasting in the historic vaulted cellar.
- With nature right on your doorstep, you can enjoy a sustainable holiday; the inn is also well connected to the public transport network. Car-free travel is even rewarded with a small discount!
