KreativMÜHLE Mücheln
Who doesn’t know the sweet children’s song about the hard-working mill that “clatters along by the rushing brook” and its ever-industrious miller? There’s also a miller in the Kreativmühle in Mücheln—and you can well imagine that he’s “always awake by day and by night”, just as in the song, so full of ideas and energy is the “creative miller” Karsten Liebmann. He completed an extensive and careful renovation of the old 18th-century manor house mill with a great deal of love and enthusiasm and it opened in 2019 as a new social hub under the name Kreativmühle. Where grain was once ground, an event and creative center has now been created with three vacation apartments attached. The goal was to honor the old structure but at the same time to update the spaces and make them fit for the modern day. This has been wonderfully successful both in the lower event room as well as in the apartments named Hanka, Vera and Maja. The three apartments are simply and attractively furnished and equipped; there’s plenty of room for the mind and body to unwind. Whether you’ve been at a workshop downstairs or are just on vacation, you’re here with extended family or best friends, or you’ve come as a cyclist, wine drinker or sailor—everyone will feel at home here. “Creative miller” Karsten Liebmann has done it—the old manor house mill is bustling with activity again. The mill clatters along once more, clickety-clack.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The rooms have been carefully brought up to date but the historical elements stand out everywhere. The walls, kept in plain white, occasionally give way to walls with exposed brickwork; the old and now visible beam construction is added to, where necessary, by black metal structures, for stairs or ladders, for example.
- The apartments have a large dining, cooking and living area; the supporting beams are sometimes playfully wrapped with fairy lights or used for a hammock; all in all, everything looks very open, inviting and spacious.
- In two apartments, there’s even some mill art to admire.
- The transom windows look great from the outside and add a special flair on the inside.
- Cosy—the Hanka apartment also has a fireplace.
- The addition of a large window facade in the seminar room looks very attractive; it makes the room even brighter and allows views in and out of the room.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- There are three apartments of different sizes: “Vera”, 93 square meters for four to six people, “Maja”, 84 square meters for four to six people, “Hanka”, 72 square meters for two to four people. "Hanka", 72 m2 for 2-4 persons
- Two or all three apartments can be booked together, providing room for up to sixteen people; two of the apartments can be connected.
- Family-friendly—the apartments are equipped with many board games; children are welcome.
- The approximately 60-square-meter, multifunctional event room can be used for seminars, presentations, workshops, family celebrations, readings or handcrafting. The equipment offers everything you could possibly need—overhead projector and screen, light and sound equipment, a small kitchenette and refrigerator, and a fireplace. A really great idea is the different trolleys which can be equipped to suit the event and can be used either as cooking, bar, creative, coffee, presentation or wardrobe trolleys. a small kitchenette and refrigerator, Fireplace and (a great idea!): different trolleys that can be equipped depending on the event and can be either cooking, bar, creative, coffee, presentation or coat check trolleys
- A trip to the Geiseltal lake is worthwhile—formerly a mining area, today the Geisel valley is a wonderful nature reserve and recreational area.
