When a ball of sailor’s yarn lies on the bedside table, when sea charts are part of the original interior decoration and the wind outside is just a little bit stronger than elsewhere in Germany, you know you’ve come to the far north of the country. Here in Büsum, just 250 metres from the North Sea beach, the four-star beach hotel and spa Küstenperle, run by the owners themselves, awaits you. The hosts Isa and David along with Isa’s parents Andrea and Jürgen make wonderful holiday dreams come true. Part of the concept is to hone in on families: the Küstenperle (translated as coastal pearl) is geared towards everyone feeling good, the large and the small, the old and the young. To this end, 93 lovingly furnished rooms and suites as well as seven holiday apartments are available. Those entering them will be overwhelmed by the authentic Nordic-fresh flair and the sense of cosiness emanating. From the second floor, the rooms have a view to the sea. Four massage rooms, three saunas and a pool mean it’s hard not to unwind. The in-house restaurant and heart of the facility, the Deichperle, serves specialities from the Dithmarscher region in modern interpretation. The mix of modern industrial as well as clean maritime furnishings with clear forms, fresh colours and well-chosen design elements ensures a tasteful and welcoming atmosphere. In Schneiders, the cosy bar, you can chat in leather armchairs by the crackling fireplace, while enjoying a bottle of beer or the latest cocktail creations. An all-in-one hotel concept that guests have been loving since it opened its doors in 2017. It’s a case of fish or cut bait – drive up north to this pearl to come down. It’s well worth the visit!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

• The six room categories ranging from 23 to 68 square metres in size are comfortable, freshly northern and cheerfully furnished – it’s hard not to feel good here. Those who prefer a more individualist touch can also rent a holiday apartment of between 62 and 84 square metres in size right next to the hotel.
• Whether fresh organic vegetables from the Westhof farm, bread and rolls from Kruse, the baker from the North Sea, or fresh fish from Tönning, the Deichperle relies entirely on high-quality specialties from the region. Many vegetarian and vegan meals are on the menu, too.
• In the restaurant there’s an extra playroom for the little ones (which goes down very well –with the big ones, too ...).
• The Tote Tante beverage at Schneiders: the hot cocoa with rum and whipped cream is excellent, and there are over 35 cocktails and highballs on the menu.
• There’s a library in the hotel – perfect for retreating and getting away from it all.
• You can also relax in the spa area with three saunas, an ice fountain, a heat bench with a foot pool, two relaxation rooms, and a fitness and gymnastics room; if you like, you can book individual spa treatments such as massages, facials or nail care for an additional fee.
• You can get weatherproof hoodies, accessories and goodies for taking back home via the webshop – all products are made in a fair and sustainable way and are created in close cooperation with local partners.

GOOD TO KNOW:

• The great breakfast buffet at the Deichperle is served from 7 a.m. till 11.30 a.m.
• The Küstenperle also offers four conference rooms, which can be rented for events from two to 250 people.
• It never gets boring in Büsum: the best way to fully experience the North Sea and all its charm is by surfing, kite surfing or swimming.
• The mudflat hike is a must – it’s always a special experience to walk through this impressive natural world heritage site.
• The Familienlagune (family lagoon) is only a stone’s throw away from the hotel, with sea lovers in all shapes and sizes meeting here: beach chair appreciators, sand castle builders, beach football players, mud waders – and guests staying at Küstenperle.
• If you follow the dike, you reach Büsum’s town centre (you get to the pedestrian zone within 20 minutes) as well as the harbour, from where you can also reach the Heligoland archipelago.
