Merano, you fun-loving all-rounder! Exuding Mediterranean charm with your palm trees, cypresses and flower-dotted promenades, entertaining your guests with the finest South Tyrolean cuisine, you present everyone with the most magnificent mountain panoramas along with all the summer and winter pleasures that your mountain world has to offer. Your inhabitants proudly preserve the many historical treasures, but are definitely just as enthusiastic about modern architecture and contemporary design. It’s precisely this exciting contrast between tradition and modernity that also appealed to the long-established Kuntner family. Owning a 700-year-old house in Merano’s Laubengasse for generations, they opened an aparthotel here in 2019. Featuring nine spacious apartments, it’s a successful example of precisely this interplay between modern design and historic surroundings. The few, select pieces of furniture blend in subtly with the rooms; nothing is superfluous, each piece of furniture works on its own while leaving enough space for the beautiful historical details. The location couldn’t be more central: If you want to grab your backpack and lace up your hiking boots, you’ll be on the Tappeiner hiking trail in no time; if you prefer to take it easy, you’ll find stores, restaurants and cafés right outside the door. Even if that’s too far in the morning, here you go: For the first (and second, and third…) coffee, you just have to stumble down to the first floor. Here, in June 2020, the no less stylish Kuntino’s bar opened its pretty doors as a new member of the Kuntner family.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

• Each apartment is individually furnished; nothing is “off the rack”.
• The individual pieces of furniture seem to be made exactly for the respective room—the calm and clear concept offers space to breathe in.
• Some apartments have their own terrace or balcony, where you can look over the roofs with a glass of wine for a wonderful end to the day.
• The special details: Parquet floors, stucco ceilings, vaulted ceilings
• The Kuntino Suites are located in the middle of Merano’s old town in the pedestrian zone, but are nevertheless very quiet.
• The spacious Maisonnette Suite
• The warm hosts are always ready to help with words and deeds.
• In the in-house Café Kuntino’s, not only can you have breakfast, but also order delicious smaller dishes during the day, and in the evening stop for an aperitivo.

good to know:

• Children are expressly welcome and are given a very warm welcome here.
• More comfort than in these 5-star apartments would be hard to find (room service, spacious and modern bathrooms, fantastic beds).
• Everything you need (or would like to have) for daily life is right on your doorstep.
• The apartments are cleaned every day.
• Parking is available in the parking garage, which is about two minutes away.
• The Merano main train station is 900 meters away; the nearest airport is Innsbruck (about 66 kilometers away).
