La Villetta

“Life’s too short for black and white!” is the slogan of this bed and breakfast in Dobbiaco, South Tyrol—and an open invitation to immerse yourself in a colorful world with a touch of luxury and extravagance in this freshly spruced up Art Nouveau villa in the Dolomites. Hosts Sandra and Andreas, who are the fourth generation to run the Parkhotel Bellevue (just opposite!), have transformed the historic building into a laid-back and unconventional retreat where yesterday and today merge into one. You can already tell from the powder blue façade that great onus is placed on the use of color in its design. This speaks for itself in the guest rooms: Plaster, fabrics and designer wallpaper are combined to create harmonious worlds of color in sage green, lilac, rust red, petrol and chocolate tones. There are also accents in bright pink (inspired by cyclamen), complemented by shades of gray or blackberry. The boxes and headboards of the box-spring beds covered in velvety fabrics as well as the retro-style sofas and armchairs create a cozy atmosphere. It’s quite tempting to spend your days off doing absolutely nothing here—if it weren’t for the imposing peaks peering through your windows. There are plenty of mountain adventures to be had in the surrounding area all year round. On warm days, you can walk or cycle through dense forests, past alpine meadows in full bloom on to fantastic viewpoints; in winter, you can ski or snowboard through the white powdered snowy landscape. Feeling content and tired from so many experiences in the great outdoors, you return to this very special place, full of anticipation, and ready to fall into the cozy beds and dream of your next day on vacation.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The dark parquet flooring in a herringbone pattern and the original Art Nouveau details—especially the old staircase with its ornate banister
  • Each room has its own individual character, mainly created by the different color schemes.
  • The unusual lamps, whether they’re made of glass, porcelain or metal, modern or retro in style, hanging or standing—they’re all very different and all equally beautiful.
  • The breakfast room with its round arches, the oval buffet area made of light wood, vertically arranged narrow tiles in its shades of blue and cream. Benches have been incorporated into the window niches—so cozy!
  • When the smell of coffee wafts through the historic hallways in the morning and you’re already looking forward to the start of the day. The lovingly prepared breakfast buffet includes crusty bread, delicious cakes, savory treats and freshly picked regional produce.
  • You can relax in the “Salon Camelia” common room with a good book from the hotel library and delicious drinks.
  • The location in the winter sports resort of Toblach (Italian: Dobbiaco) in the South Tyrolean Puster Valley, surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks
  • If you don’t feel like leaving your temporary home at all, you can also enjoy the mountain panorama from the spacious garden!
  • The conditions for great moments on the slopes are ideal: The Three Peaks and Kronplatz ski areas are just a stone’s throw away.
  • After a day of fresh air and happiness on the summits, you can enjoy a meal at the Hotel Bellevue opposite: A mix of South Tyrolean home cooking and Mediterranean specialties.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The bed and breakfast currently offers double rooms in three categories: “Nido” is characterized by its warm atmosphere; “Salotto” exudes a living room feeling with an additional sofa; if you’re in a spa mood, opt for the “Riposo”, the largest room at 30 square meters, featuring its own private sauna.
  • At La Villetta, guests aged 14 and over are welcome.
  • All rooms are equipped with a private bathroom, TV, desk, minibar, safe and lounge corner. They either have a balcony or a dormer window.
  • Sports equipment can be stored in the bike and ski room. There are also tools and a charging station available for e-bikes.
  • Good service in winter: The free Ski Pustertal Express takes you directly from the train station to the lifts.
  • There are suitable hiking tours for every level: From the circular hike around the Three Peaks, the day tour to the Bonnerhütte and the walk on the Prato Piazza high plateau. Some of them start right on the doorstep.
  • Whether on a gravel bike, trekking bike, mountain bike or an e-bike, you can pedal your way wonderfully through the varied nature on two wheels.
  • Lake Braies, surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, is only 16 kilometers away. The turquoise water is fresh even in summer and wonderfully clear—rowing boats are available for the less hardy.
  • The nearest airport is Bolzano, a good 100 kilometers away. The house is a five-minute walk from Dobbiaco train station.
