Le Domaine de l'Hostellerie
Nostalgia in Normandy: the impressive historic building dating from 1791 has, it is said, offered passing travelers a warm meal and shelter since it was built. In 2017, Lise and Gilles became the newest hosts to continue this tradition, and they do so with joy and passion. Before the birth of their daughter Noé, the couple was looking for a new home, a place of peace and retreat - not only for their small family, but also for guests from all over the world, to whom Lise and Gilles wanted to show "their" Normandy. After a year of intensive searching, Lise and Gilles discovered the Domaine de l'Hostellerie and made a bold move. Since then, they have been helping the "beautiful old lady", as they affectionately call the stately home, to ever greater new splendor. They enjoy being hosts so much that they tirelessly prepare more rooms for more guests. Currently there are five rooms and one gîte - a natural stone cottage with an open kitchen-living room facing outwards, separated from the cozy garden terrace only by a large bay window. All the chambres and the gîte are individually and charmingly french- with modern and vintage furniture, beautiful textiles, floral wallpaper, colored walls and unusual lamps. Lise and Gilles also provide their guests with a regional breakfast and, if desired, catered meals. After all, their hostel is located in the département du Calvados, known for its three Cs: cider, camembert and calvados. The Domaine de L'Hostellerie is the perfect place for a holiday with a film-set flair in the "Gourmandie".
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- That you feel a bit like you are in a French film.
- The beautiful architectural details in the rooms: historic windows, exposed beams, industrial-style room partitions
- The warm hospitality of Lise, Gille and daughter Noé - they even serve breakfast in their own dining room.
- As the icing on the cake, a covered and heated pool was installed in 2022.
- Dining from dignified to rustic: with a Royal Plateux des fruits de mer trés chic on the terrace or a genuine Norman raclette in the old dining room
- Enjoying the tea gourmet on colder days by the open fire in the communal living room.
- Lise and Gilles like things sustainable and regional: the linen bedding comes from flax grown in the fields next door, the organic soaps are made in the Les Savonnerie Normande Orély manufactory.
- Ride on selected bike routes through the flax fields. The delicate beauties blossom sky-blue in June.
- The beauty of the region: waves, spray, wide skies. And that special light. It's no wonder that the beaches in Normandy have names like Côte Fleurie, Côte de Nacre, and Côte de Grâce.
- Watching the spectacle of the sun and clouds playing in the sky, and enjoying the different moods they create, in comfort with a glass of cider in your hand.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Children are welcome: High chair, crib and bathtub are available on request
- all rooms have their own entrance, some of the rooms can also be booked together as family rooms
- There is a cozy common area for reading, chatting, sitting by the fireplace.
- The beach with its 600 km long coastline invites you to enjoy water activities such as land sailing, windsurfing or paddle boarding.
- The Domaine de l'Hostellerie is located about 13 km from Caen and 14 km from the beach and the seaside town of Courseulles-sur-Mer (the small harbor is especially recommended for lovers of seafood and freshly caught fish).
- The entire region is steeped in history: Falaise Castle, perched on a rock, is a reminder of William the Conqueror, and Omaha Beach, the stretch of coast between Colleville-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurant-sur-Mer, was one of the Allied landing sites on D-Day.
- The "green city" of Caen is nearby, a charming mini-metropolis with historical and architectural highlights.
- The village of Bayeux, not far away, is also beautiful, old and picturesque. Its tapestry with its elaborate embroideries from the Middle Ages, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-see in the Musée de la Tapisserie.
- The village of Ouistreham celebrates the scallop shell every spring with the Fête de la Coquille.
- And the region's many creative festivals are also enough to warrant several holidays: fireworks are the order of the day at "Riva-Bella", "Les Boréales de Normandie" celebrates Nordic art and literature, and the indie, rock and hip-hop scene celebrates itself - every July at the Chateau "Beauregard" near Caen.
- Electric cars can be charged near the Domaine.
