Les Rochers
Art, architecture, fantastic food and wonderful nature—in other words, everything that makes life beautiful and is good for the soul—can be found in this enchanting spot. Susanna and Konstantin lost their hearts to this imposing manor house from the 16th century more than 10 years ago and gradually created a real gem with a lot of passion and demonstrating excellent taste. This includes four guest rooms—with 50 to 70 square meters very spacious and airy—and a small, stone cottage. In all of the rooms, wood, natural stone and concrete are elegantly combined, providing a great backdrop for artwork and furniture from different eras. Susanna and Konstantin are particularly fond of the 20th century: Art Deco, Mid Century Modern and 1970s mix with contemporary design—some pieces of furniture have even been designed by the landlord. The heart and meeting place of the estate is the “l’Auberge”, an old barn made of quarry stones, which is also filled with works of art and beautiful things. Here you can chat with the friendly hosts or other travelers, have breakfast, browse, play games, eat, and drink a glass of wine—on colder days, also by a crackling fire.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Susanna and Konstantin have designed a lot themselves with great dedication and have had it implemented according to their own ideas—you can feel that in every corner.
- “L’Auberge”, the beautiful old barn that serves as a communal living room
- The hosts make their kitchen available, including basic groceries and a basket with vegetables from the neighboring gardens.
- The many wonderful places to sit, such as the red chairs on the terrace and the seating area under old trees in the garden
- All rooms have a fireplace or a wood stove.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- There’s an excellent breakfast available with seasonal and regional products. In addition, every morning there are two small “greetings from the kitchen” to taste: One savory, the other one sweet.
- On Fridays, seafood is served on request.
- Familien mit älteren Kindern ab 12 Jahre sind willkommen und wohnen sehr hübsch in der Familien-Suite
- You can shop at many small fruit and vegetable producers in the surrounding area and at local weekly markets—the hosts have some tips for you.
- There’s a library for reading, a billiard table and an area for playing pétanque.
- Les Rochers is located near the small village of Cerisy-la-Forêt with a 14th century abbey worth seeing.
- The estate is situated on the border of the departments of Manche and Calvados and is a great starting point for excursions in the region, e.g. Bayeux (15 minutes), Caen (40 minutes), Cherbourg (1 hour), Mont-St-Michel (1 hour)
- It’s about a 25-minute drive to the nearest beaches.
- Your own car or a rental car is recommended.
