Light House

Magical light, wild clouds, sea air, sand and dunes. And right in the middle of all this natural splendor, Danish architect Søren Sarup has built a dwelling aptly named “Light House”. Light, openness and transparency dominate the design, drawing attention to the real star up here in the far north: Untouched nature. There’s a small lake in front of the building and just a few steps further on lies the North Sea. The Light House consists of two parts. The horizontal pent roof house with its large windows accommodates the spacious living, dining and cooking area and a bedroom and bathroom. The adjoining pointed roof house, which juts out somewhat boldly over the main structure, offers four more sleeping options, a bathroom and a gallery. Clear lines and shapes, lots of wood and white surfaces—that’s what makes this modern, yet very relaxed, look. The simple Scandinavian furnishings with individual design pieces also fit in perfectly. Guests will feel lucky to be able to spend their vacation here with never-ending summer days, long walks on the beach, counting stars in the night sky and a crackling open fire when it’s cooler. It’s how vacations felt in childhood—very leisurely and completely in tune with the rhythm of nature.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The interplay of nature, architecture and design
  • The minimalist furnishing style in every room; all materials are of very high quality, individual design classics act as highlights.
  • White walls, light wooden floors, dark fixtures and, above all, lots of space and light—that’s the magical Scandi combination.
  • Even from the bathtub in the main house you can enjoy the dunes and Lake Flade through panoramic windows.
  • From the gallery room under the gable of the pointed roof house, you also have a fantastic view of the lake, the dunes and the Lodbjerg light house.
  • The various places on the wooden terraces around the accommodation offering both sun and shade
  • The fireplace makes it cozy even in the cooler season.
  • A walk to the beach before breakfast? The sea is just a stone’s throw away.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The accommodation is 153 square meters in size and is suitable for a couple’s getaway, a small group of friends and is also great for families.
  • There’s a large bedroom with bathroom (and free-standing bathtub!) in the main building and two bedrooms in the rear part of the house, offering room for four adults and three children.
  • The small fishing village of Agger is a surfer’s paradise; the sea and nature are the main attraction here.
  • There’s a small supermarket and a few restaurants nearby.
  • There are many opportunities for outdoor activities: Hiking in Thy National Park, horse riding, kitesurfing, windsurfing, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddling and cycling.
  • For those who need more than just the sea: Popular excursion destinations from here are Legoland (two hours), Aarhus (two and a half hours) or Aalborg (just under two hours).
  • The accommodation is very well equipped with everything you need.
  • The hosts have another vacation home in Agger, which is really stunning, too: the Aavego as well as two apartments: Vesterlandet
