Mosel Chalets
“Looking at wine” is almost as beautiful as “drinking wine”. In the designer buildings of the Mosel Chalets, you can let your gaze wander through the large panoramic windows, out onto the longest southern vineyard slope of the Moselle wine region. Even better, of course, is to do this with a glass of wine in your hand! Wine is part of life in this region, as evidenced by the numerous excellent winegrowers in the village and the surrounding area. For all of them, quality plays a major role and here at these three high-quality well equipped vacation homes quality is also a key part of the philosophy. The Mosel Chalets are a family business par excellence: The idea for the fabulous houses in their hometown came from Holger Maurer; his sister Gaby and her husband Andi take care of the properties and guests and are available to answer your questions at any time, Mama Anni is also there and her partner Jessica takes care of communication. Newly built in 2019, the tall wooden buildings are sustainably built and run; they are modern and equipped to a very high standard. The three chalets “Mosel”, “Mitte” and “Berg” stand side by side like three friends extending a warm welcome. They are a real highlight in the region. The large panoramic windows give wonderful views of the vineyards, and the terrace at the front is a wonderful place to spend time—here you can sit on the steps and read a book with a coffee, or enjoy an evening in comfort with candles and a blanket, watching the sun go down. The perfect natural cinema!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Large south facing windows give the houses a beautiful light.
- High quality and ecological materials were used in the construction, for example, the spruce wood for the exterior comes from local forests; harmful varnishes and paints were deliberately avoided.
- Sustainability lies at the heart of the philosophy—an air-heat pump runs the underfloor heating and the electricity comes from the buildings´ solar system.
- The comfortable large bench by the window downstairs in the living room in the “Mosel” chalet
- The sauna in the “Mitte” chalet
- The wooden terrace right in front of the house extends the living space.
- The cute gallery on the second floor provides a perfect retreat—it gives you the feeling of floating above everything.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- Due to the open layout, children aged 6 and older are welcome.
- There are charging stations for e-bikes and a wall box for e-cars.
- The buildings were fitted with full exterior shading in the summer of 2020, so you can let the sun in or enjoy good shade in summer.
- The Mosel Chalets have been certified climate neutral since 2021 (ClimatePartner).
- It’s a great location for exploring the area far and wide: The famous town of Cochem with its castle is nine kilometers away, you can also get to Trier easily, and the Moselsteig hiking area is well within reach.
- From spring 2023, guests will be able to rent a small boat (license free) and sail it across the Moselle.
- Perfect for excursions—the train station is only two hundred meters away (the windows of the chalets are well insulated!), so you can indulge in some trainspotting in comfort with a glass of wine in your hand, of course!
- The village of Pommern, where the chalets are located, is small (450 inhabitants), but has a lot to offer: The picturesque half-timbered houses and the Pommerbach valley make it cozy and the wines and sparkling wines of the local winegrowers are definitely worth a sip—or two.
- In the village there’s also a fine patisserie as well as a restaurant, all other stores for daily life can be found within a radius of three kilometers.
