Nardòsalento
Oh Italy, we like you so much! Especially when you show yourself from your picture book side, like here in Salento—far south, right at the heel of the Italian boot. Still without large tourist crowds, but with baroque towns, lots of culture, long sandy beaches, rocky bays and stunningly good food everywhere. The beauty of the region and the incredibly warm and relaxed people here at the southern tip are currently attracting creative people from all over the world. One of them is Belgian Vincent, who fell head over heels in love with the area and a historic 17th century patrician house in the middle of the pretty village of Nardò. In fact, he is now the proud owner of five vacation apartments which aim to delight lovers of design and architecture—with historic vaulted ceilings, atriums, antique tiles and stone floors, stone fireplaces and archways, enchanted courtyards with citrus trees and cacti, spacious terraces overlooking the rooftops of the old town and the stunning sunsets to watch. The decor is minimalist and modern, with some vintage elements. And for those who prefer to take a lot of friends or the whole extended family with them on vacation, several apartments can be combined and offer enough space for up to 13 people.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The impressive walls, which provide a perfect backdrop for the elegant well-chosen design.
- The numerous roof terraces with great views, seating and, in some cases, outdoor kitchens and dining tables
- The quiet courtyard with citrus trees, Mediterranean herbs and small Jacuzzi pool
- The impressive architectural details such as old portals, archways, volets and vaulted ceilings
- High quality furniture and accessories: Designer lamps and chairs combined with antique wooden cabinets and chests of drawers.
- The hospitable and relaxed hosts, who have many tips to hand.
- The apartments are located in the center of the village of Nardò—inside everything is very peaceful and quiet, outside you can enjoy the Italian street life.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The apartments are spacious and very well equipped—some with designer stoves, underfloor heating and air conditioning.
- The hot water comes from the solar system; all apartments use certified green electricity.
- Many beautiful historic cities are within easy reach, including Lecce, the beautiful capital and university city of Salento (about 25 kilometers), also Galatina, Gallipoli and Otranto.
- Restaurants, cafes, bars and supermarkets are all just around the corner.
- The nearest beaches are about seven kilometers away, such as the beautiful rocky bays in the National Park Parco di Selvaggio.
- The beaches of the Adriatic Sea can also be reached by car.
- The nearest airport is Brindisi (about 75 kilometers).
