Nutchel Forest Village
What do you need for time-out in nature? Quite clearly only the bare essentials—so that you can devote yourself entirely to doing nothing. At least that’s the case at Forest Village Nutchel. Like a secret treasure, the camp is hidden in the middle of a hilly landscape between the Rhine and the Vosges in the Vallée de la Bruche. Since 2018, it’s been a place to collect precious memories for life. Nature lovers, adventure seekers and glamping fans can choose from 37 Cosy Cabins ranging from 16 to 34 square meters, for two, two to four and two to six people. The modern Tiny Houses are spread across the entire site and blend in just perfectly with the nature that surrounds them. They appear minimalist and yet somehow luxurious, are equipped with cozy sleeping spaces, a living area, bathroom, kitchenette and, depending on the category, even have a terrace/roof terrace. Even the interior is decidedly stylish—art hangs on the wooden walls, curtains are used as room dividers, a wood-burning stove provides warmth and a couch is the best spot to sit down and relax. This successful interplay of materials such as wood, brass, steel and glass creates just the right atmosphere to recenter and reconnect with yourself—just as the founders of the Nutchel’s mission intended. After all, the Walddorf was born out of the belief that each of us would do well to regain more balance between everyday life and relaxation. This works wonderfully here: Focusing on yourself and your favorite people in order to celebrate beautiful life together. It’s amazing how enduring this can be!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Everything goes together perfectly: The enchanting Alsace with all its sights, the excellent food and drink, the superb wine—and the grandiose forest village, where the lightness of being is in the foreground
- The philosophy of the Nutchel founders, who believe that we live more consciously when we are in the midst of nature and also celebrate the simple things far from our daily routines (and we know: they are so right!)
- Glamping at its best—there’s a fully equipped kitchenette with gas stove, a hot shower, comfortable beds, electricity and delicious breakfast and barbecue packages
- When you sit down at the large window of your cabin with a good book, the cozy illumination of candlelight and oil lamps, and surrender to the peace and quiet, a warm and cozy sense of wellbeing instantly sets in
- The view of the surrounding nature is breathtaking—especially in the higher cabins Canopy or Nest, you can watch the birds in the treetops directly from your hammock and enjoy the gigantic panorama of the beautiful Vallé de la Bruche
- In the Cosy Chalet, the headquarters of the site, there’s an honesty store with an impressive selection of local food and drinks
- Two saunas also invite you to relax—you can book them at your convenience, which is highly recommended after such an exciting day in the great outdoors.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The Forest Village is located in the French commune of Plaine—the surrounding area is an absolute dream. Here you will find picturesque towns with romantic charm, such as Champenay; there are also plenty of supermarkets for self-catering needs
- In the Vosges, there are beautiful hiking and biking routes, passing castles (Salm Castle, Fleckenstein Castle), rocky plateaus like the Chatte Pendue, valleys, mountains (Great Belchen, Hohneck) and lakes (Sternsee, Gérardmer)
- Once you’re there, you should definitely plan a visit to Strasbourg (about 45 minutes by car): The Romanesque-Gothic cathedral, a medieval old town and the new town, which are UNESCO world heritage sites, and beautiful cafés await you
- No one visits Alsace without tasting at least one original Alsatian tarte flambée!
- Children love the Nutchel, not only because nature is the best playground; an extra children’s area has been set up for them, where they can really let off steam in the great outdoors
