Ramenai

Günter Hofbauer loves high mountains. For years he climbed the highest peaks on earth. Then he returned to his home in Upper Austria, the Bohemian Forest. In the pristine nature of the low mountain range, just a few kilometers from the Czech border, he and his family founded the lodge village of Ramenai, named after a nearby stream. Traditional forest settlements served as a model. The architecture of the wooden lodges with their gable roofs and wooden facades is also based on the typical architectural style of the Bohemian Forest. A modern twist is nevertheless unmistakable, for example, in the floor-to-ceiling windows. When it came to building materials, the Hofbauers relied on regionality. The wood for the lodges comes from within a radius of 60 kilometers. This also applies to the specialties from the surrounding area, which welcome every guest upon arrival. Suffice it to say that the honey comes from the bees of the carpenter who built the lodges. Although the natural location is in the middle of the forest, you won’t have to compromise on comfort. The lodges for two to eight people are so well equipped that you’ll hardly want to leave the door. Wooden fixtures and curtains add structure to the interiors, the wood diffusing a pleasant natural scent. Indirect light creates a warm atmosphere. Add to this a crackling fire in the fireplace and the magic of the lodge is complete. The kitchens and bathrooms are well equipped, and in the woodcutter cabins and forest farmer lodges, guests can expect their own sauna with a view of the forest. In general, the village is arranged so that everyone has their peace and quiet and can really relax. Even in his new life as a lodge host, Günter Hofbauer couldn’t completely renounce climbing. The largest high ropes course in Upper Austria is located right next to the Ramenai.. Because the cabins for two to eight people are equipped so that you hardly want to leave the door. WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • As corny as it sounds, “pure nature” really is the name of the game at Ramenai. The large windows of the lodges establish a connection to the forest. There’s a sense of tranquility that even allows stressed city dwellers to relax and unwind immediately.
  • If you still need to answer an email or stream a movie in the evening, you’ll find fast WIFI in the well-equipped lodges, also making them a great place to work if need be.
  • Want a digital detox? The WIFI has an off button ...
  • Although located in the middle of the forest, guests won’t have to compromise on anything: Modern bathrooms, well equipped kitchens and a cozy, well thought-out interior with natural textiles and lots of wood create a pleasant atmosphere.
  • As a family or a group, everyone will find their place in the Ramenai. The lodges are designed so that everyone has their space , but can still do something together—for example, game nights in front of the fireplace. Children will find their own kingdom on the mezzanine level of the woodcutter cabins.
  • The private sauna with a view of the forest and an outdoor shower in the woodcutter cabins and the forest farmer lodges is a dream. You can’t get any closer to nature than that!
  • The Ramenai is worth a trip at any time of the year. Whether in snow, rain or sunshine, the forest looks different in every kind of weather, but always relaxing.
  • The lodge interiors are equipped with loving details and practical storage solutions, designed to meet the needs of holidaymakers.
  • The high ropes course at the Hochseilpark Böhmerwald is truly an experience. Sliding, swinging, climbing—everything is possible, and with the best view over the Bohemian Forest.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Guests are self-catering. As a welcome, however, they can expect a “Waldlerpaket” with regional jam, eggs from the neighboring farm, freshly baked bread, ground coffee, milk and other goodies for a snack in the evening and breakfast.
  • Families are provided with baby beds and high chairs.
  • Since the cabins really are in the middle of the forest, the last meters have to be walked from the parking lot. The hosts help to transport the luggage with a quad.
  • No time for boredom—the perfect region for hikes and bike tours with bike rental available on site
  • Chopped firewood for the fireplace awaits the guests.
  • The nearest supermarket is in Ulrichsberg, about four kilometers away. There are also several restaurants in the area.
  • The Ramenai is also suitable for team days: In the forester’s lodge there is a well-equipped seminar room.
  • A car is an advantage for getting there and exploring the area; carports protect cars from snow in winter.
  • The minimum stay is two nights.
