De Rheezer kamer
Along the winding course of the Vechte River in the Dutch province of Overijssel is a diverse landscape exudes serenity: lush pastures where Highland cattle graze, lakes with wide reed beds, shifting sand dunes, and heathland—with centuries-old farms scattered between. In the village of Rheeze, where the clocks seem to tick a little slower, or even stand still for a moment inthe sunshine. a small B&B is hidden under the thatched stable of a farm dating from 1873. New arrivals will find two spacious apartments here: the Rheezer Kamer, which has been welcoming guests for over ten years, and the newly-opened Rheezer Loft. Both accommodations extend over two levels. The rooms are open up to the gables with exposed ceiling beams, makingthem spacious and airy. Simple, beautiful furniture, earth tones, and natural materials create a relaxed atmosphere. The soul of the house is hostess Astrid Fidder, who serves breakfast after peaceful nights—ideally outside with a view of the historic village square or the river valley. With regional organic products such as fresh bread, cheese and sausage specialties, yogurt with granola, and free-range eggs, you can start the day slow and relaxed, then extend the serenity with a bike ride along the river, a walk around Lake De Oldemeyer, or in the farm's garden. “What a heavenly spot!” was the hosts' first thought when they discovered this place for themselves. We couldn’t agree more.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- Because the hosts wanted to preserve the authentic character of the house, they changed as little as possible during the restoration and renovation, instead retaining its original beauty.
- The open-plan design of both accommodations, which makes everything feel light and airy.
- The textiles made from natural materials such as wool and linen in muted colors—they bring coziness to the rooms.
- The little details that give the apartments soul: freshly picked meadow flowers, selected art and ceramics, special unique pieces such as antique milking stools or furniture made from old beams and planks.
- A real eye-catcher in the new, light-flooded Rheezer Loft are the historic floral-shaped windows, framed by modern windows.
- The bedrooms, each located on the gallery level – with sloping ceilings, old ceiling beams, and bright colors. It doesn’t get any cozier!
- The clever design of the kitchenette in the Rheezer Kamer – it can be hidden behind the door of a built-in cupboard.
- The hosts’ penchant for Italian coffee and fine tea, which guests also benefit from. The farm’s small café offers organic coffee from a portafilter machine, which tastes even better alongside a slice of homemade cake.
- The tea garden, which offers original seating options in summer: a wheelbarrow upholstered with sheepskins or cushions draped over straw bales. Some Sundays have live music sessions.
- The location in the medieval village square, which is a historic landmark. The holiday feeling sets is as soon as you catch sight of the cobblestone streets.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The spacious apartments can accommodate 2 people each (extra beds on request). On the ground floor, there is an open-plan living and dining area with a kitchenette for making coffee, tea, and snacks. The bedroom with an eco-luxury bed is located on the open gallery.
- Because of the steep stairs, both apartments are only suitable for children aged 7 and above. The hosts prefer adult guests only.
- Natural care products and bathrobes await guests in the apartments.
- Bicycle rental and a charging station for electric bikes are available.
- The farm is also suitable for meetings or workshops. Groups of up to 10 people can be accommodated; in good weather, the brainstorming can take place outdoors – including lunch, a snack buffet, or dinner.
- If you feel inspired to say “I do” in the forest, by the water, or in a meadow, you can plan your big day with the Rheezer team and book one of the apartments as a wedding suite.
- There is a lot to experience in the area in terms of cuisine – from pancake houses to Michelin-starred restaurants.
- The area is known for its hiking trails, such as the famous Pieterpad, and its cycling routes. You can go paddling and canoeing on the Vechte.
- The charming historic Hanseatic cities of Zwolle, Kampen, and Deventer are just a short drive away. The artists' enclave of Ootmarsum and the Vilsteren estate are also worth a visit.
- The B&B is located near the German border, just 120 kilometers from Münster; the nearest large town is Hardenberg, 5 kilometers away. The nearest train station is in Marienberg (4 kilometers).
