Schwarzwaldstrand
Houses right on the water are a real godsend during the vacations. After getting up, you can walk straight to the riverbank, and drink your first cup of coffee while dangling your legs in the rushing river—what a dream. And when the (Black) forest starts right behind the house, it’s pretty close to winning the vacation lottery. Host family Lucie and Sebastian Graubner-Moormann have not only been fortunate in their choice of plot, but also in the design of the vacation home. Sebastian Graubner has always harboured a love of water and wood since his time as a wooden boat builder on the coast. At this plot, the water was already there and the wood was added in the form of a solid construction with three apartments. Laid out in a modern L-shape, they make the best use of the land and feature terrace and beach sections facing the river. When the weather is nice, life clearly takes place outside. In cooler temperatures, the natural spectacle on the doorstep can also be viewed from inside thanks to large windows. It’s always cozy in these bright, airy rooms—especially when the fire is crackling in the stove. Wood is also the main feature inside the house, but in lighter tones that form an exciting contrast to the dark stone floor. Everything is beautiful and functional at the same time, from the simple furnishings to the Italian gas stove. And yet you’re soon drawn back outside to the beach and river, forest and mountains—this combination is just too good.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The energy-neutral house producing only as much energy as it consumes.
- Due to the unusual shape of the building, each apartment has a lot of privacy, even the terraces are not visible from the neighboring apartments.
- Giving guests a beautiful home away from home is a passion that Luci and Sebastian share. Lucie is a dance and yoga teacher, Sebastian is the managing director of an engineering firm.
- The Graubner-Moormans are no construction novices. With their “Bahnwärterhaus” they’ve already shown a flair for nature-oriented vacation homes and with their second design.
- The interior design is carefully balanced between homely and natural, with a well thought-out use of modern accents and contrasts.
- The historic floor on the terrace—step out onto 100-year-old clay clinker pavers.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The three vacation apartments are spread over two levels—two downstairs, one upstairs. All of them are south-facing, sunny and have private access to the garden and the beach.
- The apartments are well equipped and of high quality—from the mattresses, blankets and bed linen to the variety of kitchen equipment; they also include a fireplace for the winter and a barbecue for the summer.
- There’s the option of renting the whole house.
- Community spirit—a special detail of the facility is the common lobby for everyone to use, for example, as a meeting place, for playing, for celebrating or even for seminars. With a long table, the room can accommodate up to 18 people. So grab your friends and head off to the Black Forest!
- Apartment two on the first floor is designed for full accessibility. All apartments have direct access to the garden and their own terrace.
- Spending your vacation in Bad Herrenalb has many advantages. As a health resort with a beneficial climate, your lungs will fill with the purest air, your body will relax in an instant surrounded by nature and if you’re up to the challenge, head to the hand glider hill and take a jump for the ultimate thrill.
