Seehotel Ambach

Wer die Ästhetik der 70er-Jahre liebt, kann sie im Seehotel Ambach am Kalterer See hautnah erfahren. Der außergewöhnliche Entwurf des Hauses stammt vom Architekten Othmar Barth, der die Südtiroler Moderne maßgeblich prägte. Mit der Wirtsfamilie Ambach-Maran verband ihn eine lange Freundschaft – er hatte für sie bereits das einen guten Kilometer entfernte Strandrestaurant Gretl am See geplant. Beim Entwurf des Hotels vertraute ihm die Bauherrschaft daher blind und Othmar Barth betrachtete es rückblickend als eins seiner gelungensten Projekte, in dem er selbst häufig zu Gast war. 2014 unterzogen es Klaus Maran und seine Frau Manuela einer sanften Sanierung. Gemeinsam mit dem Architekten Walter Angonese nahmen sie sich erst die Haustechnik und dann die Bäder vor. Teppiche, Stoffe und Polster wurden in den Originalfarben erneuert. 2018 kam zum Hotel-Baukörper im Biotop-Park ein Badehaus mit Bio Sauna (65°) mit Infrarotstrahlern, Finnischer Sauna (90°), Whirlpool und Freischwimmbad hinzu, nach dem Entwurf von Walter Angonese. Der schlichte Pfahlbau wirkt, als würde er über der Erde schweben. Er besteht überwiegend aus Holz und geht durch seinen asymmetrischen Grundriss einen gestalterischen Dialog mit dem Haupthaus ein. In seiner geschwungenen Form korrespondiert das Hotel mit dem Kalterer See und der umliegenden Landschaft. Bodentiefe Fenster schaffen ein unmittelbares  Naturerlebnis. Herzstück des Hotels ist die Suite 1973 im zweiten Stock mit ihrem weiten Blick auf den See. Darin lebte Jahrzehnte lang Anna Ambach, Klaus Marans Tante, die ihm das Hotel vererbte. Auch nach der Renovierung blieb der Charme erhalten – dank alter und neuer Design-Objekte im Stil der 70er Jahre.

• The sense of aesthetic extends to the cuisine; chef Albin Widmann uses herbs from the hotel garden for his delicate and photogenic creations.
