Stil 1827
Life is full of occasions to treat yourself to something special: The anniversary of meeting someone for the first time, completing further training or the children finally having a relaxed sleepover with grandma and grandpa. And all of them are perfect for simply packing your weekend bag and setting off—to Flanders, for example. In the form of a village house from 1827, typical of the region, with a minimalist, modern touch, this is the best proof that true luxury has nothing to do with opulence and having more of everything. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. In this boutique accommodation with four rooms, there’s an abundance of the one thing that offers the greatest good of all for stressed city dwellers: Peace and quiet and time. The whitewashed interiors and understated design radiate serenity. The house attracts all those who seek seclusion and want to connect with nature. The idea for this place was thought up by Dries and Viktorija, a Belgian-Latvian couple. Dries grew up on a farm nearby, while Viktorija has developed a keen eye for art and design through her many travels. A perfect match that has resulted in this beautiful place. In the middle of a large garden full of grasses, shrubs and flowers, you’ll find yourself embracing the slow pace of country life, while a few meters away you can feast on gourmet cuisine in the elegant Tafel Twaalf restaurant. Star-worthy creations are served here (the menu changes every 4-6 weeks, oysters are there and from Chef Jonas they are absolutely delicious!). You don’t have to look far for reasons to spend a few enjoyable days here.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The Scandi interior, which combines a rustic, rural feel with modern, calm minimalism
- The color concept inside reflects the outside: Light natural tones are contrasted with darker shades of green.
- Wooden elements and natural textiles, such as soft linen bedding, create a relaxed atmosphere.
- How carefully the house has been renovated: All the original structural elements of the house have been preserved; roof tiles have been carefully restored. The original wooden floorboards and exposed ceiling beams are reminders of the house’s long history.
- The wonderful concept! Where on earth can you find cow pastures and understated luxury as close together as here?
- The gourmet restaurant run by Dries’ sister Fien and her partner Jonas is just fifty meters from the accommodation and offers delicacies such as oysters and mussels—as well as a starter with daisies from the garden.
- The honesty bar in the loggia, where you can sample wonderful delights such as regional cheese or Belgian chocolate, enjoy selected wines and craft beers and socialize with other guests
- As staff aren’t always on site, guests can full enjoy a private retreat. However, Fien, who also manages the B&B, is always just a quick phone call away if any questions arise.
- The 800-square-meter garden. Landscape architect Peter Duerinck designed it, creating a green haven around the house.
- The outdoor sauna, a wooden structure with panoramic windows, offers a beautiful view of the garden and the landscape. The wellness room and the outdoor terrace also offer views of nature.
- Next to the terrace is a hot tub, which is – like almost everything here – powered by geothermal and solar energy. It can accommodate four people, but can also be booked for exclusive use. A real happy place!
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The house has four double rooms and a communal kitchen with high-quality appliances and utensils, where you can cook fresh food from the farm together.
- The B&B is for guests aged 18 and over.
- The Tafel Twaalf restaurant serves lunch and dinner at the weekend and breakfast is also included in the room rate.
- One and a half kilometers away is Het Waterland, the family’s sustainable farm, where many of the products used in the restaurant are sourced. You can learn more about sustainable farming methods on an exciting guided tour.
- There’s a barbecue area with seating in the garden, and charcoal is also available.
- There’s a locked room with storage facilities for bicycles and charging stations for e-bikes. Free parking is available in front of the house. Bikes can also be hired directly from the B&B allowing you to start your cycling tour from the accommodation.
- Stil 1827 is powered entirely by renewable energy.
- It’s worth checking the website for special offers for exclusive use, longer stays or combination packages with gourmet dinners, or to enquire about personalized offers for special occasions.
- The Zwin border region, with its unspoilt nature reserves, offers an idyllic setting for walks and bike rides.
