Beachhouse Rylereden
If you've ever asked yourself what true holiday happiness is, you'll find the answer in this tiny seaside house in Tornby Strand in northwestern Jutland, Denmark. When you step outside in the morning, still half asleep, you can taste the salt of the sea and feel the wind on your face. Enjoy your morning coffee at the wooden table on a dune in front of the house, with sand under your feet, the sound of the surf in your ears, and a beautiful view of the North Sea. The name of the black wooden summer house aptly means “crow's nest,” cozily sheltered in a hollow in the middle of the dune landscape as it is. When Denmark-fans Anke and Felix Krohmer discovered the house in the summer of 2024 and even had the opportunity to buy it, they could hardly believe their luck. The former journalists have redirected their careers (and their passion) into hospitality. They are particularly fond of hidden treasures, undiscovered places off the beaten track that they bring back to life. Like this tiny house in the middle of swaying dune grass. The Krohmers have lovingly renovated it: the 1930s architecture is listed, and inside, the white-painted wood-paneled walls and ceilings and a mix of old and new furniture create a cozy atmosphere – which in turn ensures that you can finally finish reading those books that have been lying on your bedside table at home for so long. The great luxury of this tiny house lies in its reduction to the essentials: spending time together surrounded by wind and waves, without hustle and bustle or distractions, but with plenty of peace and quiet.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- How inviting the little house is, with its warm wooden floorboards, cozy sheepskins and cushions, industrial lighting, and individual decorations such as treasures from the beach or the thrift store.
- That the large lattice windows let in plenty of light and sunshine at any time of day.
- The pretty glasses from the Danish glass factory Holmegaard and the beautiful ceramics – especially the handle-less mugs in pastel shades, which make your morning coffee taste even better.
- The shower experience! The outdoor shower is attached to the house and is secluded (don't worry: there is hot water). So you can take care of your personal hygiene in one of the largest bathrooms in the world: the Danish dune landscape.
- That there is so much good reading material in the form of books and magazines.
- The hammock that can be strung up right in front of the house and the wooden table outside, which can be reached by climbing a few steps up the dunes – a beautiful outdoor dining experience!
- The secluded location in Tornby Strand, a small village consisting of individual holiday homes scattered across the dunes.
- Just a minute away from the house is the family-run Munchs Badehotel with a traditional restaurant and a great grocery store with everything you need for your vacation, such as fresh bread rolls for breakfast.
- It is only a few steps to the North Sea. Perfect for endless walks on the beach, surfing, or kite surfing. And in the hinterland, you can walk through heathland and forest and maybe even find chanterelles for dinner.
- Walk along the beach to Lønstrup and the famous Rubjerg Knude Fyr lighthouse. Nearby is the Villa Vest Badehotel, located on the beach with a great view and a fine restaurant.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The “crow’s nest” is suitable for a maximum of four people (ideally two adults and two children). The living room has a daybed that can be used as a couch, but can also sleep two people. A second, smaller room has two bunk beds.

There is no dishwasher due to space constraints. großen Esstisch aus Holz – oder draußen. Eine Spülmaschine gibt es aus Platzgründen nicht
- A small bathroom with toilet and sink is located at the rear of the house, as is the shower, and can only be accessed from outside.
- Natural care products from Aesop are provided.
- The cottage is well insulated and has electric radiators in every room, so it stays nice and warm even in fall and winter.
- Strandhaus Rylereden is only accessible by foot, but there is a parking lot right at the edge of the dunes, about a minute's walk away.
- There are paths right next to the house for beautiful hikes or walks with dogs.
- The village is a few minutes' drive from the port town of Hirtshals, where you can buy fresh fish and other local products and visit Europe's largest aquarium on rainy days.
- If you feel like being active, you can quickly drive to Aalborg or Skagen, where you can enjoy cultural activities, go shopping, or eat at restaurants of all categories.
- In addition to the Strandhaus Rylereden, the hosts offer other beautiful accommodations: a Black Forest house, an apartment in Venice, a burned-down castle that has been revitalized and now serves as an event space, and a two-house vacation destination on Lake Constance, Hermann & Mia.
