Das Uckermark Studio

Back then, this was the stable of the stately Rieckshof estate, home to horses, cows and pigs. Today it is Studio Uckermark – creative office, shooting location and oasis of calm all in one. It is a place that leaves plenty of room for clarity, inspiration and personality. It was discovered by Jane Garber and Karel Kuehne, themselves creative professionals, who had set out to find their own creative and retreat space. The 6,000m² site with a courtyard and residential house, secluded on the edge of the forest outside the village of Klosterwalde, seemed perfect, and in 2021 the Studio Uckermark project was born. For the couple, it was a dream that came true very carefully and step by step. With the help of an energetic team and the architect Helga Blocksdorf, the former stable was converted into a generously designed loft with two floors. From the outside, its stone façade and large wooden doors give small hints of what it used to be. Inside, it impresses with its modern, minimalist industrial style: the open kitchen, the large communal table, cozy sofas on wheels and the fireplace are inviting. The atmosphere is homey, despite – or perhaps because of – the raw brickwork of the walls. The huge picture window on the ground floor is the heart of the studio, it gives a clear view of the countryside and is the perfect frame for fantastic sunsets. The converted attic has a sleeping area for up to six people and a workspace. You can dream and work here – on small or very big ideas. Perhaps one day they too will come true. Like the Studio Uckermark.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The studio is situated in the countryside, the peace and quiet is omnipresent – ideal conditions for switching off or relaxed work.
  • When was the last time you sat down on the lawn with a book, read for hours and just let our thoughts wander in between? The large orchard with old apple and plum trees invites us to do just that.
  • Even if the lonely, remote surroundings might suggest otherwise, the Studio Uckermark is equipped with the latest technology: from the Sonos music system to Netflix and a huge home cinema screen, everything is there for your viewing and listening pleasure.
  • Fire up the stove and watch the cows in the pasture across the way through the panorama window – that’s great cinema too, just a bit more original (here you can do both).
  • Up to six people can sleep in single or double bunks in the atmospheric sleeping area under the roof.
  • Wooden doors with metal fittings, a leather sofa on wheels, metal trolleys for crockery & pots, stylish lighting ... all this between wooden beams and stone walls – the combination makes the studio an inspiring place, and one that is also a tribute to times long past.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The house has a long, eventful history: among other things, the Rieckshof, named after its founder around 1850, was a Russian commandant's office after the 2nd World War.
  • Due to the open construction, children under 10 are not allowed in the studio – safety first!
  • In the surrounding area you will find lots of enchanted lakes, beautiful cycling routes and hiking trails, which are worth a trip in every season of the year.
  • Templin is the nearest town, there are many shopping facilities and even a thermal spa (about 8 km away).
  • It only takes about 1.5 hours by car from Berlin-Mitte to the studio.
  • Once an hour there is a train from Berlin directly to Templin Stadt, from where you can easily get to the studio by bike, but the hosts' offer is also tempting: Jane and Karel are happy to pick up guests personally from the train station.
  • The minimum stay is two to five nights, depending on the season.
